What are the benifits of small size over Medium

First Post
I am making a Mechanicus Construct and was wondering other than AC. I am going to construct him like an imp and my DM was going to improve his flying manuverability if I size down. I know his damage will go down, but was wondering if ther were any other benifits for size alone.

I believe there's a +4 bonus to Hide, but I'm not certain. There are also the non-stat stealth advantages of being small: It could fit in a big bag or backpack to be carried by a burly character, it's easier to hide it among luggage and stuff, etc.

Darklone, are you referring to a lower carrying capacity for a given STR score?

Usually smaller size means weaker as well. Not only regarding strength.
But it is easy to be fooled if the small character is a spell caster. Then being small size is almost always good. Unless you end up having to carry your dead comrades away after a battle to the local cleric for a raise dead (assuming that is possible).

Or if you get caught in a grapple (small creatures get -4 penalty).

And don't forget that a small characters weapons will be smaller and do less damage.

I've never heard of a Mechanicus Construct before, but assumed from your first post that it was something your character is building. Is this the case or is it a character you want to play?

If you're playing it, you probably don't want to be carted around in a backpack :)

It is put out by Phillip J Reed - Construct Mechanus.

Basiclly the concept is constructs that become sentiant. You are given so many points to build your body, but you still roll up your stats and create your character like normal. It is considered a race - ECL +4

Ah. That's different. When you said "like an imp" I assumed it was a familiar/companion type of thing. Thanks.

I checked the SRD. You definitely do get +4 to your Hide checks just for being Small. If you're the sneaky type I'm sure you can find lots of other value in being small, too.
