Congrats! My wife is 6 months along with our first, due April 9th.
Thanks, and congrats right back.
But be prepared, it's a lot more work than you think.
You're money will not be going to 4E by then.

Spend on AD&D, Castles and Crusades, few missing 3rd party stuff I'd want, miniatures, XBOX stuff...

But spend way less than I ever was on Third ed, in the end.

Scratch the part about XBox, and that's my answer as well.

As of the moment, I have no interest or desire in supporting anything new from WOTC. Despite some interesting 4e design goals (e.g., weakening spellcasters at higher levels, reducing the Christmas tree syndrome, getting rid of Vancian Magic) and liking a few of the fluff changes (yay, Feywild and getting rid of the Great Wheel), I have been turned off by nearly every decision and mechanical implementation revealed by the 4e designers and the game, imo, appears to be heading backwards not forward. Add to this that I have been disappointed with nearly every WOTC product released over the past two or three years, and what they have done with Dragon (including their online handling and recent announcement), it looks my choices are the following:

Definitely:
5 Buy other RPGs: True20, Mutants and Masterminds
6 Save money

Possibly the following
2: Purchase Out of print 3.x from WOTC (the following only and only if available at a decent discount): Arms and Equipment Guide, MM2, Fiend Folio, Dragonomicon, Fiendish Codex: I, Heroes of Horror, Stormwrack, Complete Arcane (or Tome & Blood for several of the spells)

4: Purchase third party 3.x products: there are still several that I want to buy.

After choosing 3rd party 3.x products I saw several answers on the thread that apply to me.

Get a new printer & a binding machine for pdfs I want to have on hand.

Check out other games: True20, d6 Fantasy, HERO System 5th, C&C
