D&D 4E What are you planning for your first 4E character?

Ok, now, without having read the books yet, what are you thinking of playing so far? What are you planning to play as your first character?

I myself am planning on making an intelligent Human Fighter, specializing in the glaive as his main weapon (whether there are mechanics for specialization or not) with either a saber or a longsword as a secondary weapon, and dabbling in either some Warlock or Warlord abilities. I'm thinking either Warlord to tie in with a high Intelligence, or Warlock and use some ritual magic.

I'm working on back-story (childhood, mentors, early training, and the like) and coming up with his appearance, symbols and insignia and stuff, and doing sketches and drawings of everything. Also coming up with favorite color, favorite foods, stuff like that.

I don't know how many people do this much for their characters, but I do this all the time. I enjoy it.

Is anyone else doing anything like this yet? Is anyone else coming up with preliminary ideas? For me, doing all this is half the fun of making a character.

Definitely a Warlord. It's everything I ever wanted to do with a Bard/Marshal/Dragon Shaman/Warblade multi-class mess, but oh so much better. Either going to take the Wizard multiclass feats or the Human racials; can't decide without seeing the book.

Warlord, too. It looks like a class I always wanted to play. After having seen the online pregen, I want to play him no less. ;)

I don't know about race yet. I probably have to look closer at my options. Every race seems to be interesting.
I feel tempted to multiclass with Fighter, but we'll see.

Character

Ha. I also am interested in the warlord. It pretty much is the character I've always tried to play but could never quite manage in 3.5 - an intelligent leader/fighter. Maybe multi-class with Fighter, Ranger, or Rogue.

It will probably be a while before I play (I'm DMing our first 4e campaign), but when I play I'll likely go human paladin . . . not sure if I'll multiclass or not.

Personality . . . Jules Winfield (Samuel L. Jackson) from Pulp Fiction :D

(assuming I ever get the chance to play as a player, which isn't likely):

I plan on running a Fey-pact Eladrin Warlock, who passes himself off as a regular elf to the PCs. He'll pass off both his racial and class powers as the result of a pact with some high level Fey, when in actuality he's an Eladrin Noble, sent to the 'normal' plane as an agent of the Fey Court. All his Warlock powers are in fact self-generated, rather than the result of some pact, and I hope that, with DM permission, I'd be able to have him come into direct conflict with the rest of the party at some point, at which he'd toss out his disguise and confront the party as a solo encounter.

I'll probably be going with a dragonborn paladin wielding some kind of polearm. Halberd, maybe.

I've always liked the concept of paladins, but until this edition they put waaaay too much starch in their shirts to play well with others. At least, if the others in question are half as bloodthirsty, greedy and larcenous as many PCs seem to be.

Dragonborn Warlord (charisma build), with a reach weapon
Halfling Paladin (charisma build), with sword & board
Dwarf Cleric (wisdom build), with 2-handed maul
Human Ranger (strength build), spending feats to get up to plate armor

I think, I'll play my current character's husband. She's a dwarven psion which makes conversion a little difficult. He's currently her cohort, a dwarven paladin. Might get interesting to look at their relation from the other end.

So, thank you WotC for not publishing psions just yet. :)
