What am I reading... question of the hour.
I watched the movie Holes the other day, then borrowed the book
Holes by Louis Sachar to read the book it was based off of. Both are good.
Just finished reading the book
Go Ask Alice, author Anonymous. It's based on the actual diary of a 15 year old drug user. It's disturbing to read, because in the book you can see the author go from a fairly normal girl with normal 15 year old concerns to the extreme depths to which she would go to get her fix. It's informative, in the way that it gives you a look into someone's head, but it's also sad. The author died of drug-related causes three weeks after the last entry in the diary.
Yesterday I bought and finished (I'm a fast reader) the novelization of the first X-Men movie. I wanted to get the novelization for the second, but it had either sold out, or been stuck somewhere where the clerk couldn't find it. I'll try again in a few days. The first one (simply called
X-Men by Kristine Kathryn Rusch and Dean Wesley Smith) is not too bad. Like a lot of novelizations, it was written off an earlier version of the script, so there are several lines and actions that are either added or emitted from the movie. Wolverine was supposed to be a lot more violent, going from what the book had in it.
And because I couldn't get my hands on the X2 book, I started re-reading the novelization of the Daredevil movie (which I enjoyed). The book is by Greg Cox, and is pretty good. Again it suffers from the early script syndrom, including a whole huge subplot that never got anywhere near the film. The descriptions are pretty good, considering the author was basically hamstrung by having to describe scenes without using visual terms.
For my next book... I see what comes up.
