So a topical question for the masses: what's the first fantasy story you ever read? (Or optionally, what's the story that got you into fantasy?) I was into SF, and in 4th (?) grade a friend lent me "A Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula K. LeGuin. I devoured it and that started my lifelong love of fantasy fiction. And there are still echos of that book in the homebrew settings I run when DMing.
Broken Empire is one of the few trilogies I've read where each book was better than the one previous.
Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Pool of Radiance (the SSI Gold Box CRPG) got me interested in D&D, and looking for D&D stuff at Waldenbooks led me to the Dragonlance Chronicles. So a topical question for the masses: what's the first fantasy story you ever read? Before I could read, my mom read Beowulf to my brother and me. This explains a lot. Now, as far as first fantasy novel I actually read, it’s probably Another Fine Myth by Robert Asprin.
A Wizard of Earthsea is an amazing book. One I wish I had read when I was younger. Same with C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia.

That's an excellent question, and I have to admit that I don't rememberSo a topical question for the masses: what's the first fantasy story you ever read?
