The advantage of an Amex card is that you can't afford to leave your account mounting up charges.

Besides, that's not the point. They are providing a service to me; I should not have to accomodate myself to them. The technology exists for them to accept Amex, therefore they should. It's not like it's an obscure African company providing the card, here.

Oh I don't know if I can name the exact five most recent. Let me kind of lump a few together:

Nostalgia purchases: a bunch of old modules such as Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun, Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, Against the Giants (compilation), Bone Hill, and a couple in the Slaver's Series. My brain gets a huge thrill from reading through these old modules -- it's almost literally a trip back to my childhood. It's not that I have the itch to run them, but the nostalgia factor is a fun part of the hobby.

Goodman Games modules: I'm not sure what it is, but I've been snarfing these up as I see them. I do want to run these. I'm not sure I'll ever have the chance.

Advanced Bestiary: Has some cool templates.

Arcana Evolved - Transcendence. I wasn't going to buy this, I already have "too much" stuff and I know my players won't buy, but I thought what the heck, I might be able to mine it for ideas down the road.

Akashic Nodes for AE -- haven't given it a thorough read, will be able to mine for ideas.

The disadvantage of Amex is not to the consumer, but the retailer. They have the higest charges in the business in regards to what the retailer has to pay - it is why so many companies do not accept it. I suspect that the total that Amex makes per purchase is pretty much the same as the other cards, but it all comes out of the retailer's pocket.

The fees that credit cards charge the retailer can sometimes be more than the purchase, which is why RPGNow had a minimum for a while. A service that costs the retailer more money than they are making is a good reason not to have that service.

Indeed, the last time I checked, American Express was 5-6 times more expensive than Visa for minimum transaction charges. While it is the perogative of the consumer to use whichever card he wishes, it is also the perogative of the vendor to accept whichever card he wishes. When American Express is likely to at $1.00 or more on a credit card transaction of $6.00, I can see why RPGNow would be unwilling to accept them.

I have seen some vendors pass on the transaction fee to the customer. I wonder if this would work for RPGNow?
