What are your all time favorite rpg games, and why?

EarthsShadow

First Post
Of all the games I have seen come and go over the years, and in the process seeing many of them getting ignored by the domination of Dungeons and Dragons due to its history and popularity, the ones I personally like is Earthdawn and Exalted for fantasy and Traveller and Alternity for science fiction. All of them are great settings and/or unique dice systems that set it apart from the rest.

Which games do the rest of you like and/or would like to see come back in a new incarnation, whether or not its d20?

Fantasy: D&D(It's the origional and fairly customizable now.)
High Fantasy: Exalted(Yeah anime goodness)
Modern Games:CoC or D20 Modern (Both are really good)
Cyberpunk Style:Shadowrun(Yeah dragons that run megacorps)
Science Fiction: Fading Suns(the Setting rocks)
Overall: D&D it is still my overall favorite and I tend to prefer fantasy games.

Tribe 8 and Jovian Chronicles: both have awesome backgrounds and use an extremely flexible and easy to use system.

Exalted: This game is just brilliant. High fantasy at its best.

Mekton and Cyberpunk 2020: Before Heavy Gear, these two were the only mecha/anime games for me. I still like them, but Silhouette does everything Mekton did for me and more.

Over the Edge: Never got to play it, but I used the setting of Al Amarja in my Cyberpunk 2020 game for years.

Blue Planet: Ultimately it turned out to be a little to hard sci-fi for me, but I love the background material, the attention to detail and the setting.

The Ringworld rpg had a cool skill system and an initiative system I've sworn to steal from when I design my own rpg.

Amber was and is great but requires more time than a full-time job and full-time college put together to gm well.

Paranoia is fantastic, but only the gm needs to know the rules and he can make them up as he goes along if need be.

Rifts and Palladium Fantasy. Take away the rules and you have two great worlds to game in.

Thieves World, the single best dark fantasy setting.

D&D - the first one I ever played.

Traveller - the classic, black book edition. It opened up new vistas. This game was the first that I felt captured the sheer splendor and immensity of what a scifi game could be. I'm really enjoying reading its d20 incarnation.

Boot Hill - We loved this game way back when. Quick and deadly. Very very fun.

3E
Twilight: 2000
BattleTech/MechWarrior

Cyberpunk

And coming soon to a favorites list near me: D20 Modern, and WarMech from the Mongoose.
