What are your RPG plans for 2022?

For 2022:
  • I hope to continue my Shadow of the Demon Lord campaign for as long as possible. This will be my main rpg.
  • I'm reading several Coriolis adventures and the Mercy of Icons campaign books. The plan is to start something in May.
  • Do one-shots of Modern AGE set in the 80s using a car concept (A-Team, K2000) mixed with a supernatural setting.

I am currently working on a new campaign, giving D&D 5th edition a second shot with a couple of tweaks based on my experience from my previous campaign. It's a setting inspired by 6th century central/eastern Europe after the Romans and the Huns, in which only bards, druids, and warlocks exist as spellcasters.
I actually had planned to start after Christmas, but now I'm starting a new job this month already, move into a new place, and then it's straight into peak season for us, so I'm pushing it back to early or late May. Which gives me four more month to work on the setup.

2022 RPG plans:
  • Compose the One True Game.
  • Steal WAR from Paizo for illustration.
  • Compose theme song with Ramin Djawadi.
  • Get Tom Clancy 's name for co-branding (should be a bit easier than GRR Martin).
  • Kickstart for >$1,000,000, before the announcement of D&D 6th ed. tanks all my hard work.

Attend a couple of conventions in person.
Take a year off publishing stuff.
Run Goodman Games TOEE issue.
Run or play Twilight 2000/Talisman RPG / The One Ring 2nd ed / WHFRP 4th ed & some of the 2d20 stuff.
Run an Elric based campaign using dragonquest.
Build all my terrain and paint all my minis.

One of the above statements is a blatant lie.

"Build all my terrain and paint all my minis."

That's the one I keep telling myself every year! 🙃

Finish the two campaigns my group is currently on - I'm playing in both, which is unusual.
Prepare a TOR campaign that I'll offer to run to replace one of those when they reach a suitable finishing point - which should certainly happen in the next few months for our Forbidden Lands game.
Finish writing and testing a project I'm working on for Runequest: Glorantha. If it comes out this year - unlikely though that it - it'll be on the Jonstown Compendium and my first paid RPG work since the 1980s.

The main challenge for this year will be balancing the time for gaming with completing my research and writing my PhD thesis (I'm on a leave from teaching which will expire in about a year).

I'm planning to finish my extended Dragon Heist remix in a couple of months.
I will keep running my Saltmarsh campaign (maybe alternating every now and then with some OSE).
I will keep playing in a somewhat sporadic Scum 'n' Glory game (our schedules align poorly).
If RMU (the new edition of Rolemaster) does finally come out, I'd like to run or play a one-shot game.

EDIT: I forgot the very slow moving PBEM AD&D1e game in which I play. We started in 2007 and it is still going on!

What attracts you to Cole's material?

"Delvers to Grow" provided an easy-to-understand and easy-to-use product for Dungeon Fantasy which helped to make character creation better for members of my group who are intimidated by learning new games, while also retaining the flexibility of GURPS.

Combined with the setting materials he has, it provides a good entry into a game system I enjoy which helps teach the system to others using a format they're more familiar with (due to a resemblance to how games like Pathfinder or D&D are organized).

Continue running my WWN/OSE mashup sandbox hexcrawl campaign. We’ve a couple of adventures so far, and the chemistry between PCs is fantastic. I really want to see whether they can make it into the ruined capital or not (going to have to play to find out!).

Run my Zweihander fantasy campaign for another 30 or so sessions, then shift over to Degenesis, using the Zweihander rules.

Run my 5e fantasy campaign for another 5 or 6 sessions, and then shift to a modern-day zombie campaign using Ultamodern 5e, adjusted for the tech level.

I am out of games and out of groups to play with unless this pandemic goes away. So I've decided to take advantage of this hiatus to reignite my own little 4th Edition Renaissance. (I guess it's like the OSR movement, but with more tactics and controversy!) I've already got the ball going with a few projects that began with the following:
This year, I will continue to focus on 4e by:
  • Creating more workbooks with OneNote
  • Building (and running?) a Heroic-tier campaign
  • Designing a better game system based on 4th Edition D&D.
And if there's time, I'll play some board games and paint some minis, too.
