What Books should I get??

I couldn't tell from your initial post if you're specifically looking for mecha-based material or not, but you should have a look at Dawning Star. It's the only full-scale science-fiction campaign setting based on d20 Modern and powered by d20 Future. It's been nominated for an ENnie for Best d20 Game, and it's on sale during the voting period through Indie Press Revolution for a ridiculously low $19.95 for a 208-page hardcover book.

I'm thinking of picking up D20 Modern and seein what it's like..

My problem is I love heavy gear but my gaming group refuses to play it since it's not (d20 Sigh!). I don't really blame them since most are "newer" gamers and they don't want to learn another system..

So I can buy the D20 Modern book, the d20 Future, and The Mecha Compendium fro mDP9.. Is that all I'll need or are their other "must have" products? As in must haves I mean incase I wish to try something else in the Scifi range other then HEavy gear/Jovian?.

BTW I have a bunch of DP9's Heavy Gear books for background and such..

Thanks in advance for help..

I've ran both Sil and D20 HG and I have a tough time deciding which I like better. If you want to stick with HG and go D20, pick up the HG3 Rulebook. Additionally you'll find D20 Modern indispensible. HG3 was written before D20 Future came out and can be played without it (though parts of it are be useful like the character generation section, all PL5-6 gear/weapons/armor, and the feats and the Mecha Ace AdC from the Mecha chapter). Some else mentioned the D20 Mecha Compendium Deluxe which can fill the role of the HG3RB if you already have a bunch of HG books.

I get good mileage out of Dawningstar (crunch mostly) and Ronin Art's Future series of pdf files. Also coming up on the scope is The Games Mechanics Future Companion (the Modern Campanion is excellent as well and quite cheap on Amazon or as a pdf).

I'll look into Dawning Star..

A lot of good material was mentioned in this thread and it has been helpful.. I am specifically looking into Mecha only worlds but I will not turn down an RPG if it's Scifi :D I run (ran I should say) HG 2ed for awhile and we used the rpg rules. The tipical adventure would be lots of action out of the Mech where mech battles would happen at least once. That's not to say there were never moments where we only use mechs or didn't use them at all for long stetches..

I have to laugh, because this is starting to look expensive. With over 200$ of books already talked to about I might have to throw out buying some.. Amazon will get me a deal on D20 and D20 future for 50$. No one around where I live carries DP9 products, heck I have to travel 45mins to get a good selection of RPG books. It would be hard for me to find The Mecha compendium also.

I'm in the same boat. Anything I can't get from Amazon I normally get from http://www.frpgames.com. Their prices are normally 20% off and thier service is excellent. They carry all of the 3rd Ed HG books and the Mecha Compendium.

Hello. Just had to chime in here and say that I'm a big fan of HG as well. I'd have a hard time playing it using D20 (even though I love that set of rules as well). I guess I'd use D20 Future as well. You might want to ask around the DP9 forums as there was someone who was converting the d20 miniatures rules to HG. He even had some of the data cards converted with some really nice artwork.

Something to think about.
