I'm going to veer off topic a bit here. Like a lot of you, I have quite a gaming collection. I buy pretty much everything that comes out for Pathfinder. I bought most things that came out for 4E. With 4E, I drew the line at those cards that offer in-game benefit. I thought the first set was horrible. WotC did not invest enough in art for the product. Also, the cards, in a lot of ways, replaced a superior, free product that was handed out during LFR events. So, I bought the first set; I got burned; and I did not buy any more.

Now fast forward to 5E/Next. I'm not particularly excited about what I have seen out of or heard about the new edition, but I love D&D; so I will definitely by the core 3. I'll probably buy every book that they make for the game. What I will not buy, however, is the miniatures that they recently announced. I like miniatures, but the core game specifically avoids their use in favor of theatre of the mind. Why do I need them? I suppose if 5E organized play (I love organized play) uses the tactical module as a default, I might buy them; but more likely, I'll keep using my Pathfinder and Reaper minis.

Well since we veered, I'm up for continuing down that road less traveled. I don't suppose you have a picture of your entire gaming collection? Something that would give a rough impression of how much stuff is out for Pathfinder, compared to how much stuff was out for 4e?

I have soured on splats lately. The core book, some monster books, and adventures is what I typically buy these days. 4e was the last game where I bought everything and never used most of it. I will see with 5e if I how back to buying everything.

Gaming material for me tends to be as ephemeral as movie tickets. I have no problems spending the cash for the length of time I'm going to get enjoyment out of them... but once their time is done, I can let them go. Which is why my answer is always easy when people ask how or why we're willing to go along with it when WotC "is making us buy the core books again" for a new edition. Because to me... I bought tickets to The Avengers and 4E... I greatly enjoyed my time with them... but now they are offering me The Avenger 2 and 5E. New and different products that I also want to pick up and enjoy... rather than just stay more years on the previous ones. And if I never pick up a Blu-Ray of The Avengers and the DDI servers shut down on 4E's materials so I really can't experience them again the same way... no big deal to me. Because I'll be enjoying The Avengers 2 and 5E now instead. And then several years down the road, The Avengers 3 and 6E.
Since it agrees with my own beliefs, let me say this is a very healthy attitude. :)

My gaming books are the last thing I have that I keep primarily due to sentimental attachment. A few books I have are utilitarian, like the Monster Manuals. But I'm definitely starting to lose even my sentimental attachment to my books and will probably get rid of them fairly soon. I'd much prefer for WotC to allow a subscription to purchase PDF versions of the books and have them integrated with the CB. If I really like 5e, I'll still buy a decent number of the books, though, even without PDF/CB support.

A lot of people want a Rules Compendium style book. That surprises me.
I honestly expected more people to be interested in a Dungeoneer's or Wilderness book.

Yes.

Obviously this question assumes the book isn't going to be ass. The question is irrelevant if the book is terrible: it doesn't matter if you have three versions of the Manuals of the Planes or are brand new game if the new version of MotP is craptastic.

i happen to like ass.

To be honest, I love the wilderness survival guide and in my opinion it's one of the top 5 supplements of ALL TIME.

The problem I have is that it is still totally useful even though it's 1e. I don't need a 5e version because honestly most of that stuff is covered just fine using the 1e rules. Now if they publish it would I buy it? Yes. I tend to buy all DM related things that they publish. Some though might be satisfied with their 1e version though.
