What can gray slaads do with their item creation feat?

I am talking about the caster level requirement for the FEAT, not for making the item.

Gray slaads typically take "any one item creation feat."

However, they can't cast spells (they only have spell-like abilities) so what can they do with it? They can't fulfill item creation prereqs with Sp abilities, can they?

So my question was, if Slaad only have SLA and NOT necessarily levels in a spellcasting class, how can they ever TAKE an item creation FEAT?

Either having a SLA actually grants a caster level (and therefore lets you qualify to take those item creation feats, which later you can use to make an item by providing the necessary spell as SLA), or the Slaads are allowed to take those feats without requirements, or something else which I didn't think about.

That was my question, nothing to do with the DMG :)

A Gray Slaad does have the caster level (of 10th) as a spell-like ability user. So it can qualify caster level requirement for those feats. The same can be said for Warlocks. A Warlock is not a member of spell casting class but does have caster level.

That is something I really didn't know... I thought that a creature with spell-like abilities has an indication like "Invisibility cast as a 10th level Sorcerer", but not a real caster level.

I'd like to know if this is spelled out somewhere in the core books.

As somewhat of an aside, if a creature has teleport as a spell-like ability can he then make a helm of teleportation if he has the Craft Wondrous Item feat?

Read 3.5e MM carefully. The format of spell-like abilities changed. Now spell-like abilities are never "cast as **th-level **". They simply have caster level. And the ability to determine DC is written.

First off, unique slaad magic items!! Ohh yeah chaos baby!!!

Not really in the core books, but it's made explicit in a section of Complete Arcane.

Ok, I don't have the 3.5 MM, but I already thought that it might be written that way also, and still I wasn't sure. What I'm not sure is if it's the SLA which has a CL listed for dispelling purposes, or if is the creature who has to be treated as having a CL. However that may be nitpicking...

Anyway IIUC you cannot use a SLA to provide a spell for item creation, or can you? If you cannot, then some book is in error in one way or another.

Crap  just what I didn't like in my old 3.0 splatbook... that you needed to buy them in order to know what should have been in the core books.
