What can my level 7 PC do with a +21 diplomacy?

Hi there!

I am not very good at rules, but since I think I will play this character for a long time I might as well learn his strengths and weaknesses. I already know what this character cannot do, so the only thing left to learn is the juicy part. :)

Anyhow, because of a high charisma and various bonuses from feats (vow of peace, vow of poverty etc), my level 7 character has a diplomacy modifier of +21.

What can I do with a +21 diplomacy? That gives a diplomacy check of around 22 to 41, averaging ~30.

Thanks!

Mostly, you can change NPCs' attitudes toward you. The mechanism is explained in the Diplomacy skill description.

In the average campaign, the most useful effect will be convincing a hostile creature who understands your language to not attack you. Take a full round action for this, and you need only roll a 9 to meet the base DC. (The DC is only 20, but you take a -10 penalty for rushing.) Of course, if your friends are attacking or threatening the monster while you're trying to talk to it, your DM is free to apply heavy penalties, or even rule that the check is impossible.

Another use I like is to make indifferent townspeople turn Helpful. There's no point using them in combat, but they're good for fetching and carrying. If your wizard got killed in an alley mugging, have a couple of commoners help you carry the body to the temple. Or maybe you need to get a message to Town Hall, and it's clear on the other side of the city. Collar a random passerby, give him a gold piece, and ask him nicely to run the note over there for you.

Some DMs also allow a Diplomacy check to affect the price you get for selling off extra treasure, and for buying new items. Needless to say, your group will want you to do the shopping. ;)
