Corwin, from Roger Zelazny's Amber books.

Just as a really fascinating character, old and experienced as anything - cynical, a poet, lover, warrior... great stuff.

The favourite PC I ever played was his son, Taliesin (my own creation) in an Amber campaign. The DM just took one look at my personality and assigned my father to be Corwin, because it fitted so well.

anywya, i'd probably want to play Morat, from Iain M. Banks' A Player of Games. That was one of his names anyway...

well, not a novel character yet, but...

i'm sure he will be soon. j. gregory keyes' "fool wolf" from the dragon magazine stories. he's powerful, but not overly so, shrewd, and "cursed" with a demon-goddess who inhabits his body and fights with him for control. talk about roleplaying potential! plus, where else can you find a protagonist with a quest [to rid his body of the spirit] that is so intrinsically part of his character and not reliant upon outside factors?

In a fantasy setting either Kalten, Ulath or Tynian from David Edding's Elenium and Tamuli series. Playing characters that don't take everything very seriously is always fun.

For a far future setting, Gurney Halleck from Dune. Because he rocks!!!

Also any kind of Ork or Orc from the Warhammer or Warhammer 40,000 settings. I'd also like to have either a red painted boar or bike, because red ones go faster.

Also from the Warhammer 40,000 universe, Horus.. I wouldn't wanna play him, but would definitely would like to see or meet him in a campaign.

As for characters from the movies...

Ash from the Evil Dead Trilogy(actually played a very similar character to Ash for City of the Spider Queen adventure)

Blackbeard the Pirate. Arrghh Matey!!!

Not actually a character but Michael Dudikoff. The movies are so bad that some weird thing compels you to watch them.

Robocop... He is the man.. The machine... whatever, he rocks!!!

This may be a silly question, but have you read Waterborn and BlackGod?

And I for one would love to see the Fool Wolf stories compiled and published as a novel.

I think I'd be Samwise Gamgee...Good ole Sam. He was there for his friends. He was brave, inspiring, a bit of a poet. And in the end he got the girl!
