"He was a man born out of his time--a strange blending of Puritan and Cavalier ... a knight-errant in the somber clothes of a fanatic. A hunger in his soul drove him on and on, and urge to right all wrongs, protect all weaker things, avenge all crimes against right and justice. Wayward and restless as the wind, he was consistent in only one respect--he was true to his ideals of justice and right. Such was Solomon Kane."

-- Robert E. Howard

Sign me up. Solomon Kane is one of the coolest characters ever.

I would have to go with one of three characters. (These are not in any order)

1. Croaker, from the Black Company Series (by Glen Cook). I loved the fact that the BC was a mercenary group but found out who they were working for and changed sides. The innocence of Croaker and his love of the Lady and the part that played in the series was a nice twist.

2. Ender, from Ender's Game (by Orson Scott Card). The book is full of symbolism and discovery all from Ender's viewpoint.

3. Sparta, from Venus Prime (by Arthur C. Clarke). I enjoyed the mystery of her past and the discovery of new abilities tied to the modifications she had done in the past.

Wow, what a great question...

I'd have to say Laurana from Dragonlance would be the first one that comes to mind, or even Eowyn from LOTR. I hated Kitiara in the DL novels, but I bet she'd be an awesome character to play.

As for a sci-fi sorta campaign, I think I'd want to play Ripley. She's not superhuman or anything, but she's very brave and smart, and one of the strongest female characters I can think of in Sci-Fi.

Superhero sort: Wonder Woman for sure! She is my favorite superheroine of all time!!

Horror: Buffy, or maybe Willow. I like that Buffy has super-strength, but I like Willow's spellcasting abilities, too.

Again, very cool question. I'll be thinking about this one all day... :)

I would have to go with the valheru from rayomond feist's magician books,particularly ashen shugar.Or maybe Rand alThor.Or.....Conan the cimmerian...he is so cool and manly.....

Hmmmm...

Spider Jerusalem from Transmetropolitan {Warren Ellis}

Master Li from Bridge of Birds {Barry Hughart}

Aiken Drum from the Saga of the Pliocene Exiles {Julian May}

Nakor the Isalani from several Raymond E. Fiest novels

And finally {totally non-SF/F}...

Nick Charles from The Thin Man {Dashiell Hammet}
