What character from a novel would you most want to play?

Ignatius J. Reilly, from A Confederacy of Dunces.

Seriously.

edit: I don't know what kind of game would have him, and I seriousl doubt that I could do him justice, but he's my favorite character in all of fiction. Period.

I picture a Human Expert, heavy on the Knowledge & Bluff.

I guess he isn't quite fantasy, but I'd love to be the Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court (Mark Twain). Nothing beats lassoing Sir Lancelot.

Has anyone mentioned Achilles? Hercules?

Crispin from Sailing to Sarantium (Guy Gavriel Kay) would also make a great character.

Well, I went with Odysseus. From the Illiad I would rather play someone like Ajax, though Odysseus ain't bad either.

I just finished watching Farscape, and I think Rigel would be a character I would love. The pretty much all of the Farscape players would be very playable.

After reading this thread, all I can say is... YER ALL A PACK OF MUNCHKINS!

I sat down and asked myself what would make a character from a novel fun to play?

I decided I didn't want character that was too overpowered, or too overwritten. When I play a character, i want to play MY character, not somebody else's.

My top three picks are:

1) Felix, from the Felix and Gotrek novels.

2) Tazendra, from the Phoenix Guards.

3) The Man With No Name, as played by Clint Eastwood.

Felix is underwritten. Tazendra is a secondary character, though with plenty of personality. The Man With No Name, well, he's just badass. I can basically invent details about all three characters, fiddle with them, and personalize them. They're also dripping with plot hooks and ideas.

Gerald Tarrant from Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy

Nah. Damien Vryce (from the same series).

Carrot Ironfoundersen from the Discworld for a light-hearted game.

Morrolan e'Drien from Brust's Dragaera to cover both the mage thing and the non-human thing.
