Out of sheer egotism, I will say that I would most like to play the protagonist of a novel I wrote. Said novel is currently winging its way through the mail toward an agent who's expressed an interest in it, and if someday said novel actually hits the shelves, I'll be pimping it like there's no tomorrow.

In d20 Modern rules, he'd be a Smart Hero/Mage with a cane-sword and a bunch of feats to make himself a bit better with it. In D&D rules, he'd be a Bard, or Wizard/Duelist, or something equally counterproductive. :)

Bah! In my campaign, Takyris (male human rogue 6/guild infiltrator 7) is head of the largest chapter of the Britannian Thieves' Guild. He's just recently sent the PCs off to investigate the disappearance of a couple of guild operatives, and has his eye on recruiting one of them to join the ranks of his enforcers.

A pragmatic, calculating man, he realises that the guild makes most money when it doesn't confront the authorities. He prefers to get things done via subtle means, husbanding his resources rather than expending them on risky escapades. He can always hire third parties for that... third parties such as the so-called "adventurers" who have recently appeared on his turf.

You are MINE! MINE, I say!

Among other characters I've stolen, Taren Nighteyes (female human bard 7) is a partial avatar of the virtue of Compassion, and proprietor of the Laughing Sprite inn; Voneth (male spirit folk druid 5/healer 8) is a partial avatar of Spirituality and runs a famed hospital in Skara Brae; and Simon, Kengar, Destil, Kyramus and Whyrph were a squad of 1st level <s>redshirts</s> warriors who got splatted by a trap in a dungeon. Poor things, they never stood a chance.

Your campaign HAS a Takyris?

Dude, I thought this was an original name. I mean, sure, only so many possible letter combinations, but really.

In my world, it's formed from the ancient words for "not" (ta), "with trust" (kyr), "transcending" (-is) -- making Takyris, one who does not trust those he encounters.

If it helps (which it won't), I thought it had something to do with Tahkisis when I first saw it...

Doctor Faustus. One summoning spell and he got the lucifer himself - have any of you tried to summon any Archdevils lately... The doc is one epic Conjurer...

I know its a thick book and all...

... but i'm shocked that John Zacharias, Gentle, John Fury, Master Satori from Clive Barker's Imajica hasn't been mentioned. Munchkins would rather play Pie'oh'pah (the shapechanging assassin/whore) but i would rather be lost and wandering and still adventuring, like Gentle.

Gosh, I get to play someone else's dream! :D

In terms of pure fun to play, I think I'd choose Delirium from Neil Gaiman's Sandman. (Or maybe Destruction from same.) And I agree that Croaker from the Black Company books would also be a good choice.

I would probably go with either Destruction, new dream, or Lucifer from the same series.
