D&D General What class is this character, and is she wearing armor?

To be clear, the OP asked us what we thought the image depicted not what the artist was representing. To me that means at least thick-ish leather, not some leather fetish vest and pants. So if it's supposed to be leather armor at least make a stab at making it look like it could be useful, even if padded armor gambeson would likely have been far cheaper and more effective.

Something like this image, at least.

I was going with the chainmail bikini analogy like what @Oofta mentioned. It could be the leather is what you want it to be.

Curious, what do you want it to be and why?

Short version...I was hoping this might be usable as a sorcerer, but in my head, I keep thinking there are rogue levels.

Long version...Back in 2e, there was a pregenerated character named Jilani in a Dragonlance supplement called Unsung Heroes, who was a wizard. I want to convert her to 5e as a sorcerer. The face of this character looks a LOT like the face of the artwork I posted originally.

So, I want to use this newer art to represent the character, but the armor (if that is armor) is causing me to have a huge mental hangup.

Simple. It is NOT armor. It is a leather bodice. It will not offer any real protection at all.

However, I would recommend either removing the bracers or saying they are bracers of defense, because a Sorcerer (which I agree with) would not be able to use such (mundane) items for defense.

If you changed the color of the outfit so that it looked more cloth like, would you consider it armor?

Yeah, looks like traveler’s clothes to me. Heavy leather to protect against the elements, but certainly not something that would hold up against a blade.
Except for some armored bits like the small vambraces and what appear to be leather spaulders, I'd have to agree the leather bodice she's wearing doesn't appear to be anything like a cuirass. So I think this character is probably either a sorcerer or a wizard, although she could also be a monk.

I was half-joking when I said Jedi, but there’s some definite influence there, which makes me think monk.

Even then, the leather elements seem more decorative than protective, and the leather is probably soft/supple rather than boiled/hard leather. I would easily argue a caster class, though if someone said that was the rogue PC I probably wouldn't bat an eyelash at that either.

That's a tough one. I wish I still had PhotoShop so I could envision it better.

So I tried to imagine that the brown color was white, and that lessens the armor effect. But, parts of it still seem like armor.

Have I mentioned how my head is a weird place to be at times?

I'm pretty sure that the artist intended it to be armor. That said, as lots of people have commented, it really just looks like leather clothing, so I'd just imagine it as clothing and go with it. It seems to fit what you were looking for other than the leather "armor" which doesn't look like armor.
