Single class thief rogue. If only because I've been on a nostalgia kick for a while and I really like play experience rogues have to offer. In general I'd be playing something that I've played before (many times) to get a feel for the system mechanics and suchlike easier.
Of course, given that likely as not I'll be GMing, the point is moot.
Pity Slaad wasn't an option. :P

I'll likely be the DM for quite a while, but I'll make a Fighter first, as a test character. And I'll play a Fighter as soon as I have the chance. To me, adventure = lots of fighting, and heroes = warrior types.

I like the idea of wizard/warlord....so a 3.5 wizard hehe. Make everyone else better, and win a fight here or there with powerful battle field control.

I don't think it matters much however - as I'll likely be playing artillery and brutes for many moons.

I'll be the DM in our first 4e game, but if I weren't, I would play a warlock, probably Eladrin. I didn't like the warlock too much in 3.5e, but this version has got my attention...

Halfling Warlock, for my first 4e character. Cocky and violent, probably with an Infernal Pact.

However, we might be converting an existing 3.5 game into 4e, so my Transmuter who disdains the use of damaging spells suddenly becomes an ordinary artillery-style wizard :(.

Like they said, DMing for a long time so Flumph.

First character I'm going to create, though, would be a Wizard w/ Initiate of the Faith. Though, I'll have to wait to convert my old Mystic Theurge for the Greyhawk campaign book (and Wee Jas).

My players seem to think that, at some point, I'm going to be a Tiefling Warlock. But that could be because I'd damaged their brains over the years playing the bad guys and they just can't see me playing anything else...

This poll, combined with the race one, helped me decide to make an Elven Archer Cleric as my first 4e character for the upcoming FR RPGA campaign.

With the (surprising to me) popularity of Warlords indicated by the polls, I can probably ease into a ranged striker role with the right choices since another leader probably won't be needed at tables.

Now I'm torn... with so many fighters out there, I'd rather be a paladin if I want to bring a defender to the table, and now that it's clear that paladins have at-will and encounter Cha-based attacks, it seems possible to dump Str on a paladin. So a tiefling paladin with wizard training might be quite viable. But I like my teleporting spear-fighter concept... oh, the choices....
