What Classes Existed in Earlier Editions?

Maybe I'm imagining it since no one mentioned it yet, but weren't the Druid and Monk also 2nd edition classes? But Druids defiantly in 2nd edition because I know they had major and minor cleric spell spheres assigned to them :)

There were also Elementalists in the 2e Tome of Magic or something like that...

Not sure if anything White Dwarf published counts, but seeing as Games Workshop was the TSR distributor in the UK back in the day ... the ones that come to mind at the moment are the Houri, Merchant, and Detective tho' I am sure there were others.

ONe category of class not mentioned so far are the additional classes from the Gazatteer series for Basic/Expert etc D&D.

From memory, they the following:

Ylarum: Dervish (Druid variant),
Rockhome: Dwarf-Cleric
The Five Shires: Master (Keeper of the Flame?)
Minrothad Guilds: Merchant-Prince
Darokin: Merchant
Ethengar: Shaman
The Shadow Elves: Shadow Elf
Atruaghin Clans: Shamani

THe Orcs of Thar Gazatteer provided class versions for several monster humanoids like orc, goblin, etc.

Also, one class sort of presented was the Thug (or Headsman) from the Master set. It was a halfway attempt to provide an equivelent of the Assassin to Basic D&D. It wasn't officially a class, but the monster description provided a 1-12 HD progression of abilities, clearly modeled after the Assassin class.

Dark Sun classes included:
Fighter (variant abilities to PHB)
Gladiator (new class)
Ranger (variant abilities to PHB)
Defiler (wizard variant - preservers were like PHB wizards, and illusionists were also allowed)
Cleric (variant abilities to PHB)
Druid (variant abilities to PHB)
Templar (new class)
Bard (variant abilities to PHB - more like an assassin in Dark Sun)
Thief (variant abilities to PHB)
Psionicist (mostly like the original CPH version)
Trader (new class)
