What classes would Xena and Gabrielle be in D&D?

I just rented the year one of these...

What classes would Xena and Gabrielle be in D&D? Level thoughts? How about Hercules and Aeolis? Joxter?

Joxer, to me, is a very good example of a Commoner. As time goes on, he actually gains a few levels, but he's still a commoner :)

Over the course of the series, both Xena and Gabrielle show a hodgepodge of abilities that are not easy to mimic with D&D rules. They have monk-like combat abilities, but also the tendency to get better when angry, which suggests barbarian rage. One can argue that they've got Bard abilities - using Perform (inspiring speeches) to improve morale and effectiveness in the show is common. But, neither of them do any straight-up spellcasting.

All in all, I think you want to use another system to model them.

I thought about this once, when I used to watch those series. I pegged Xena at around Ftr 10-12 before the series starts; by the time it ends, she's somewhere around Ftr 16/Mnk 8, possibly with some levels in Weapon Master or some other appropriate PrC - she's definitely epic. Gabrielle is straight-up Bard (L8ish) with some fighter levels later on (3-4).

Joxer? I figured him for a warrior, but yeah, commoner's probably closer. He might have some warrior levels later on.

Hercules... Ftr all the way, around L16-18 (Xena beat him when they first met), and DVR 0, of course. Iolaus has levels in fighter and some martial arts PrC - not quite monk, though; his fighting style is more reminiscent of martial arts than unarmed combat.

Xena-- Fighter/Ranger/Warblade 6/6/4
Gabrielle-- Bard/Fighter 4/2
Joxer-- Commoner/Village Idiot 2/nigh infinite
Hercules-- Fighter 16
Aelous-- Fighter 12

And Autolycus, the King of Thieves (who should've had his own danged show) Rogue/Acrobat 12/6

Sad but no doubt true because of the diversity and mixing of special abilities and attacks. Interestingly, there was a Hercules & Xena roleplaying game by West End Games, the very last thing they squeezed out before their "first death".

And, interestingly enough, it was pretty well done as far as mimicking the series' combats and maneuvers and such! And yes, all the main characters and villians from the first few seasons were statted out, too. Yes, I have this thing. It's on the collector's shelf...

I'd say Xena has some monk levels and barbarian. ANYBODY can try and inspire people, Bards just have the knack for it so she doesn't need Bard levels. Gabrielle might have some Bard abilities but she seems to be more rogue/monk. I also think the DM in their campaign was using some house rules for mooks or something...

Xena must be a Gestalt character. She is too competent to be just a multiclass character. ;)

Barbarian (Whirling Frenzy variant)|Ranger (FE: Human)
Barbarian|Rogue
Fighter|Monk
Fighter|Monk
Fighter|Monk
Fighter|Thief Acrobat
Fighter|Thief Acrobat
Fighter|Thief Acrobat
Fighter|Thief Acrobat
Fighter|Thief Acrobat

She also has gone through quite an alignment change in her career. ;)

Hercules makes a point of not carrying around a weapon. When he fights he just tends to push people or throw them. My guess is Hercules is a commoner but since he is the son of Zeus he's got some super high stats to compensate for his lack of proper training.

(Although if you count Young Hercules he has got some first class training too, but I simply refuse to do that. It doesn't fit.)
