What Color Are Drow?

I like the jet black ...

but the purple tones on the Polyhedron were excellent ... I think I'll have them both!

then there was an albino one in the Maztica books ...

and if you have Monte's (FDP) Queen of Lies you'll see he gives some ideas on what advantages that gives you.

I think of brown as a wood/wild or sylvan elf color ... or dwarves.

Jet black, with the highlights of their skin looking like onyx. I'm still not sure what to think of the whole "milky-white" eyes thing. Sure, it makes sense, seeing as how they had to evolve underground in a nearly completely lightless environment, but, I always did like the whole red eyes, though I can do without the glowing bit, even though it was kinda neat.

I prefer mauve but my players prefer I paint them black with purplish highlights. What's this about albino drow? White skin and white hair?

I would like to think jet black would be appropriate. While most underground creatures are pale, there was some description of the svartalfar of Norse mythology as dark skinned. (Possibly this alluded to the color of the soil.)

I wonder if the presence of adamantium in the drow environment might have some impact on their skin color. (Trace amounts in diet.)

I jokingly voted blue as I thought someone was being funny with the poll. I have made a few "Smurf" jokes to someone who had a drow character. (Long before Drizzt or however you spell it was a gleam in anyone's eyes.)

Well, it's quite simple, really...it's all about a gamer/author/designer's desires to have their character stand out from the crowd.

Elves are more special than humans, and therefore more cool.
Dark elves are more special than elves, therefore logically making them even more cool.
Good dark elves are more special than evil dark elves, and rebels to boot, therefore they are [COLOR=sky-blue]kewl[/COLOR].
Good albino dark elves are even more special than that, which makes them super-fantastic-uber-deluxe-neato-eleeto-burrito-kewl.

After all, if a character's that special, they must be interesting, right?

I'll go with black...sort of. Jet black would be kind of creepy and a bit too alien if you ask me. Very, very dark gray sounds about the right tone.
