I voted 'something else' - D&D drow are officially black skinned, but I paint all my dark elves with regular flesh tones a la Warhammer dark elves.

original.....

original the drows where called Dark Elves, and the dark elves are in fantasy plain elves turned over to the bad side or clans of evil elves livving in a normal elven comunity.

By leggends they had the same skin collor as other elves had (white), but they had black hair they needed to die (collor) blond to hide they're hertiage and evil doings.

Becouse of this the elves where not always trusted by humans, they where never sure if they could trust them, the dark elves encouriged this and so, humans and elves faught manny wars...

Now we take FR with all they're bad authors and weak setting scribers and here we got the drow. This story was to complex (or to dificult for they're little narrow minds) to put it in they're setting so hack we put them underground (instead of hidden in the elven clans) and change they're hair collor with they're skin collors (while it is generaly known that a black skin is almost imposible to get underground, if you live for generations underground the biggest chance is you will become albino).

This is also the main reason I absolutly detest the drow, and all the work thats based on them. Little to no research and a few bad writers and you get this....

I voted for jet black ...

However, there is no reason the drow could not come in many colors (including brown, dark purple, and others.)

The surface elves, come in every color of the rainbow.
Why not drow?

In my campaign Drow are deathly, pale white in colour (painted with some very pale plue for aspects of shading, e.g. around the eye sockets). Their hair is typically gunmetal-grey & silvery. Their eyes are a solid glossy black, with no whites in them at all.

Mine are the silvery pewter color that ALL my minis are:D Actually I tag them as black only after they pass the test of Lolth, I mean you can't have non-evil black-skinned Drow running around on the surface world with panthers that appear at your beck-and-call can you? Seriously, they look like normal elves until after they undergo Lolth's test and pass. We all know what happens to those that fail.

I'll go with black...sort of. Jet black would be kind of creepy and a bit too alien if you ask me. Very, very dark gray sounds about the right tone.

Hmmm... Creepy and alien. Can't think of any Prime-planar race that better fits that than Drow.
