I thought all significant drow characters were albino anyway...certainly a high percentage of them...they must have more albinos as a race (per capita) than just about any other ...

Huh? Albino drow? Yeah, I remember reading about them in the Drow of the Underdark book, but I've never actually heard of any in any adventures or such. What's your source?

While it DOES look like a moustache, IMHO Bill Willingham (the artist) was merely trying to convey the black, polished look of drow skin. When it comes to the drow's upper lip, Willigham's use of shadows gave away the impression of being a moustache. That spawned at least 16 years of moustached, clone-like drow.

Back on topic. I agree with Eric, waaay back in page 1: dark gray.

For my take on drow skin, follow this link:

Black.

Black as a killer's heart.

Black as the starless void.

Pitch Black. Coal Black. Funeral Black.

Black.

not quite what you're looking for, but check out monte's (thru FDP) Queen of Lies.

I think it depends on the setting.... for example with the original Drow adventures (demonweb pits etc...) for Greyhawk they were depicted kind dark blue - black.

But in Forgotten Realms they have been everything from Dusky Grey, pitch black, brown-black, purplish-black..and so on varying from Artist to Artist <bg>

The onyl simple Answer is, they are whichever colur suits your needs and preferences best.

The only thing i am certain of, is that they are definitely not Tangerine Orange :D

I made mine dark purple.

The jet black idea makes me uncomfortable, like they're characters in a minstrel show or something...

I guess I'm PC at heart (no not Piratecat!)

I'm for dark gray. Though the canon is they're ebony black, I think. But... I dunno, an ebony black humanoid who lives underground and can cast Darkness just doesn't come out well in illustrations IMO.
