Well according to the MM they do lay eggs, 1 for every 10 adults, if you don't want them too, then thats fine, but going by the rules they are egg layers..

I'd say since they don't seem to lay many eggs, maybe 40 for a full clan I's supect they are well disguised for their undergound, so rust coloured from teh above list, and with a hard shell, and probaly get buried in teh nest to block out any drakvision creatures looking for them....

Boy, this is almost as good as an paladin and alignment question!

They are warm blooded like birds and dinos! Eggs are speckled and taste great sunny-side up! :D

It is a well known fact that gaints and orges raise them as humans raise chickens.

Yeah, sure. Little dog men that claim to be related to dragons;)

Oh, yeah, a newbie to D&D you seem to be... :D
Kobolds were thought to be little dog men, and that nonsense of 'dragon blood' and 'egg laying' is only a bad pun from 3rd Ed designers. Kobolds were, and are and will be little dog men.
they can claim anything they want, they are doggies... adn the only dragon they are related to is the dog face dragon of the the Neverending Story movie.
:p

The MM clearly states that they are reptilian and lay eggs. All you dog-men people need to take this to house rules if you insist on using some deviant, twisted version of kobolds in your campaign. Its an issue of balance - if they didn't lay icky gooey eggs then everyone would mate with them, so the children could have sorcerer as a favored class.

Why do you people want to make with kobolds!!!

You have just given me an idea... The Half-kobold!
With sorcerer as favorite class, and Str -2, Dex +2, Hide +2, and Move Silently +2...

:D

Okay, I am starting to get a little confused here...

If Kobolds are 'little doggies' are they cows?:D

If they are 'dogs-men' do they fall in the 'all dogs go to heaven' rule? :o

Okay, I have had a bad day.

Hmm... So a woman laid eggs? Which colour? And spots? :D

I voted spotted, but my kobolds' eggs are not usually spotted, since they are hard to spot. Bad pun, I know.

As for the dog/lizard controversy, IIRC, they were reptilian in 1e, changed to doggy in 2e, and back to the source in 3e (with the Sorcerer thing added).

I even remember having read a 2e adventure where it was explicitely mentionned that kobolds lay eggs (the PCs could find a female kobold emprisonned in a cage, somewhere, and she was put here by her tribe because she used to eat the eggs of the other wifes of the kobold leader so that the next kobold leader would be of her blood).

So, both the all-new and the really-old prefers reptilians. Personally, I favor reptilian. First, the dragon delusion (or reality ?) is cool. Then, as much as I love DiTerlizzi's works, I really prefer the 3e Kobold illo of Sam Wood to the 2e ones. That kobold is too much cute.
