What Cosmologies will exist in 4E? (Forked Thread: Previews: November and Beyond)

I can see the point, but I think the benefit isn't as big. You can create very different cosmologies and still introduce a link between them - as long as you have a cosmology at all, anyone wanting to link them can still say "oh, and then there is this metaplane where you can, if you're lucky, visit other parts of the multiverse with different cosmologies...".

Not every setting needs a unique cosmology, but some can benefit from it - especially those that might already have interesting, pre-existing cosmologies.

Many can benefit from their own personal flavors.

I think something that would be telling is IF the idea of Spelljammer was built in with the crystal spheres that would allow greater deviation from PoL without needing to interact with the Astral Sea.

I have been thinking Plane of Knowledge from EverQuest every time I think Astral Sea, and can only see PoL providing for the single universe theory within the system.

Might get lucky and get some diversity, but that would be up to the designers. I think Eberron might be the first to shine some light on it all.

Was Takhisis mentioned about being in the Draconomicon? Being a god that would surely be something that says more cosmology is possible with her dragon form existing in there.

But it seems PoL and the PHB cosmology is built around a combination of Eberron and the Realms, which makes for an odd outlook on future cosmologies to me. We can only hope and wait.

Of course, spelljamming on the Astral Sea doesn't sound bad, either. But you'd still want something representing the Spheres, I suppose. Or would the Astral Dominions work for those. (In that case, the difference between the standard cosmology might be that the material world is also just an astral dominion, instead of something unique...)

It wasn't Takhisis, it was Tiamat.

I am pretty sure it was Takhisis that was Paladine's younger sister and sent into the Abyss during the Age of Light.

Tiamat is just a generic form from Greyhawk that was derive from many other ancient religions into a dragon form for D&D.

Both goddess dragons of evil for D&D though.

So if either is in the new Draconimicon, then it offers hope for new cosmologies, but to a lesser extent if only Tiamat appears. Which is most likely over Takhisis to allow for the generic use of "the Chromatic Dragon".

But I am in the air about this as Ember is supposed to be in it, so Tak has a chance to appear as well....Hell Bahamut is in the PHB even! So it almost is surely Tiamat in Draconomicon. :-S

@Mustrum:

Tough call there with jamming the seas...Let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best with new, or at least expanded/extended cosmologies.

Or convert them ourselves. ;)

We just got the Mongrel Dracolich preview today and the book is already out?

We were directly told that Tiamat is in the book, and she apparently has stats. As Takhisis is a setting-specific deity (who is actually dead in "present day" of the setting), and Tiamat is the generic D&D setting evil dragon goddess, this means the likelihood of having both in the same book is slim to none.

Tiamat is easily the more likely canidate, but Takhisis is by far the more attractive canidate.

At least Ember is there, so I will hope for that slim chance to present something outside of generic cosmology in the Draconomicon prior to the first new setting.

DragonLance, unlike the Realms, might go for a time prior to current day so Tak may be alive if it gets a setting. I wouldn't mind playing During the Age of Light after the Graystone first passes across Krynn!

There has to be new cosmologies for DragonLance because who else would make the Graystone if not Reorx?
How so? Could you elaborate on that?

From the PoK you could travel to other places and even the Moon Luclin, and other planes via portals.

Like the Astral Sea connects the other planes in place of the Great Wheel you could just navigate directly to the place that takes you to the plane you are looking for. The little island on the sea like a headstone in PoK.
