What dice should I get?

With christmas round the corner, I'm thinking of geting my first dice...Which ones?

I've been on the Chessex site, and those dice look really cool!

I like: Speckeled: Baracuda, Mercury, Hurricane. Translucent: Teal. Vortex:Green gold and in the specialty section the volcano dice.

Thats 42 dice!!(At a low, low price of $23.50 or £15.09)

But is that to much?

Plus, should I get any of the books if I already have them in PDF?

42 dice too much? I have around 250+ :)

Chessex has a new line out called Scarab that's beautiful for a first set. I got it at my LGS, but I didn't see it on the website.

The frosted ones are great, too. As for the speckled, I have the Lotus and the Strawberry (green). The Nebula (flame) ones are beautiful, too - I don't think Chessex carries them on their website anymore, but some online LGS have them still - try doing a search on Google.

Oh, and one more thing - Dwarven stones also make an excellent first set :D They're from Crystal Caste.

There is no such thing at "too many dice."

Even if they crush you and kill you under their bulk. :)

That said, no, that's not too many. As noted you'll want 4d6 for character generation, more d6es (and other dice) than that if you're planning on launching fireballs and such (trust me, it's much more pleasureable to roll them all at once), and you'll certainly want multiple d20s so you can use the "good" ones. :)

when you consider the amount of time you are going to spend with your dice, even the casual gamer should get a set or two they really like.

Personally, I get a new set or two each time I start up a new Camapign. Since the games I'm in seem to last a while, I don't have too many dice yet. All the retired dice are in a very large Jar I hope to fill. Lots of colored dice in a translucent jar looks really cool by the way.

Mmmm...

Nothing of value to add.

Just had to comment that I would have sworn the title of this thread was "what dice should I _eat_?"

Need to get more sleep.

Green ones!

But seriously, I'm the DM and we do point buy(or else!:)) and I have 6 d6's(5 mine).

We game twice a week, but it's at school.

I was also wondering is it better to get those 42 or a pound O' dice?(I won't need 100 dice, and they won't look so cool, plus the vampire dice confuse me:() it's cheaper, about half price.
