What dice should I get?

Get the kind of d% where one of the d10s actually has tens on it. This will avoid arguments every time someone forgets to call which color die is the tens digit.

That, and you might want to consider legible dice, no matter how cool the illegible ones look. Some DMs (such as me :)) will disallow the illegible ones on the spot.

Thats why i said I disliked the vampire dice...But is that a good idea? Those Dice?

And about the books, which books should I get? i already have loads ona .Pdf but I play at school so they are of no use...

It's actually illegal to own PDFs of the rule books if you don't own the books yourself. A searchable PDF of the SRD is another matter, but if your PDFs contain all the graphics and flavor text then they're illegal.

So, yes, you should buy the core books.

I've been on the Chessex site, and those dice look really cool!

I like: Speckeled: Baracuda, Mercury, Hurricane. Translucent: Teal. Vortex:Green gold and in the specialty section the volcano dice.

Thats 42 dice!!(At a low, low price of $23.50 or £15.09)

But is that to much?

Too much? I spent more than that on 1 set of Dwarven Stone dice from Crystal Castle www.crystalcaste.com/stones.htm# $25 will get you the cheap ones with the price going up to $60 for the more expensive stones. The set I bought was only availible at Gen Con and was one of the full size Hematite sets. There is something satifying though feeling the weight of them when rolling.

I started out buying a full set of dice for each character I created. Then I got me a separate set for when I'm DM'ing. Then I got a huge amount of D6's for playing warhammer. (feel the power of a full unit of Space Orcs charging when you throw the 46 attack dice all at the same time <grin>) Now I'm building me the ultimate dice collection: I've been checking my RPG book collection to try and quantify the maximum number of dice of each type needed. Now every time I notice dice for sale, I'll try to pick up all the "Ninja black" dice to complete my ultimate DM dice pool.

But you know what's funny? I do like my dice but in some of the groups I play/DM we hardly ever need dice because we tend to roleplay ourselves out of a corner. (sometimes even combat will go diceless: if we can describe an especialy nice/spectacular/wicked/... way of attacking we often get to hit as a rewared. But then same goes for the NPC's <sigh>) But even when don't use our dice, it's like the char-sheet together with the dice and the notes make up the corporeal body of the PC I'm playing.

Yes, I can't go without th PROPER diec for the PROPER occasion ;-)

If you're not gaming in public areas / other people's houses, get the prestige stuff. I play mostly at cons, so need the disposable stuff. :/

No advice to offer here, but I do have a bit of a hijack. Anyone ever seen a d9? And I'd love to get a d7 from somewhere; I know those exist.

I believe the thread on "one more FRPG" talks about non-D&D FRPGs which have some odd-sided dice. If it isn't mentioned there, I know I saw somehwere a mention of a d7 which was included in some non D&D FRPG.

Here's a question I have, its it easy to get d4s that are actually 8-sided, so you don't have to throw those awkward pyramids? I've heard of them, not never seen them.

I've got a d9. It came with a d5 and was sold to play the Florida State Lottery. I'm pretty sure both are unfair. There may be a pic of them at my dice site The Dice Maniacs' Club a.k.a. The Random Fandom.

D7's do indeed exist. I've got a few. They used to be distributed by Lou Zocchi/Gamescience. I don't know if he still sells them.

Back to Ferret's questions:

No, you can't have too many dice. :p I don't know how many I have, but it's probably around 2000.

I recommend Crystal Caste's dice.

Chessex stole thousands of $'s worth of intellectual property rights from me, so I don't have anything good to say about them.
