What did you do during TSR's dark days of '97

Went to TSR.

Determined what needed to be done to get product flowing again.

Got that done.

Your article about what you found there resides permanently on my hard drive. As a love letter to gaming, it has no equal.

Let me also say "Thank you."

I was actually trying to find that article not too long ago and wasn't able to turn it up. Can anyone point me to a link, or something like that?

At any rate, I know that there's a lot of folks here that are D&D fans from way back, and I'm wondering what happened in those days for you. How did you get your D&D fix? Did you just keep playing the game, unphased by the lack of new material?
Yeppers. I don't need constant new products to keep playing. Further, I saved a lot of time and money.

Do you mean this one?

I'd post what I was doing but it wouldn't be nearly as interesting as Ryan's post. :)

How's this for bad luck:

I had JUST opened my gaming store. At least MAGIC: THE GATHERING was selling like hotcakes to keep enough money rolling in to pay the bills.

I went under in 1998, but it was a fun ride while it lasted.

I left RPG's for the CCG craze (got really big into Star Wars CCG). I had heard about TSR being in trouble but didn't know the details. It wasn't until that heard that WotC had bought TSR that I kinda got a sense of what was going on. Even still I didn't want to bother ( I wasn't a big WotC fan at the time, I didn't like magic the gathering). I figured that WotC would incorporate all of the magic the gathering creatures into D&D which didn't appeal to me. I remember reading a dragon magazine about 3rd edition but still wasn't interested. It wasn't until I had a friend tell me how cool the d20 system was that I decided to try the Star Wars (d20) rpg. Soon after I came back to D&D and here I am.

Welcome back, I don't blame you for leaving, I was in my White Wolf years.

And Star Wars d20 as dang cool, a good one to start with :)

Well it was sometime in the last half of 1997 was when I started playing D&D. My cousins introduced me to the game. I got to play the spare character they had. A 6th or 7th level cleric named Bob Jr. They were playing Dragon Mountain.
