Pathfinder 1E What Direction is Pathfinder Headed In?

I could definitely get on board with this. Monster/NPC design is one of the few things I really like about 4e.

You and Orcus would be well suited to such an endeavor.

As a side note on the subject of everything not being completely visible.. Jason Bulmahn recently released some additional Feats in a fourm post. One such feat related to Crafting skills. A poster pointed out that the Feat seemed to be referencing rules that aren't in the Beta Book.

To paraphrase Jason, "Oh ho! Looks like you found a spoiler then, didn't ya?"

An open beta with secret rules? Interesting.

Probably not a secret at all, I suspect he was just having fun, and I cast it in the wrong light.

As I mentioned above, they've said they want to update the rules from the Beta- but they have to balance that with actual work on the project. They can't just slap a Word Document up for example. Any web update has to go through the writers, editors, art department, typesetters.. even just for a free update.

if you check the schedule I posted above, they're right in the middle of the Skills and Feats development cycle. This addition to crafting is likely something that came out of that.

Its called everybody wants something different, and if we actualy said what the rules were going to be(and I believe they pretty much know already in a lot of cases), we'd end up disappointing half of the people who have got their hopes up.

However you feel about Pathfinder, you can't deny the game is riding high on hype, and it goes against Paizo's interests to do anything to dispel any of that hype.

Have to read Beta deeper to have a consistent opinion. So far I don't find changes too impressive... I'm eagerly waiting for the Monster book, tho.

I recently had a look at the PF rule book, and then gave Jason props for his monster creation guidelines. It's a noble effort, but doomed to fail because he's still clinging to the stats-by-type standard of 3e.

Well, I suppose it won't count be seen as such by people that already like the direction PF is going.

I tend to agree with you, but I think the idea of "fixing" the issues in 3E is doomed to failure with that approach.
But this makes me believe that whatever Jason is working out will improve things enough to make many peoples happy.

Damn, going off-topic:
Thinking about it... The idea of using monster types as classes instead of, well, using classes is an interesting design decision. I wonder where it came from? Isn't there a dichotomy in the idea of monster/PC transparancy if monsters advance by type, while PCs advance by class? Shouldn't there have been monster classes similar to what 4E is now doing, making advancement based on role instead of type?

It wasn't craft skills. It was Crafting Magic items without being a spellcaster based on your crafting skill.

That sounds like a cool addition that I always hoped would happen!

Agreed. I read that whole feat list last week (there are a lot of them!) and liked most/all of what I saw. The crafting magic items without having to be a spellcaster was one of those "dang! why didn't someone think of this earlier?!" type moments. Very cool.
