What do people think of Oathbound?

So far, the setting is top notch. The adventure in the book is very good (where's Ashy, I'm sucking up here!) and the free adventure on Bastion's site is also very good (yeah Darrin!).

I'm here! I'm here! ;) Thanks very much, teneb! And I agree with you about Darrin - he's my hero! :P

Oathbound is tres, tres sweet. I'm currently running my group through a 3e convert-as-you-go run of Ruins of Greyhawk, with an added storyline (was there one to begin with?) that the party is going there to stop some foul demon from being reborn in the lower levels. By the time they get there they should be approaching epic levels.

At that point, I'm going to have the planar energies of the demon's birth transport them all to the Oathbound setting.

It's a very well thought out setting, and I'm looking forward to using it.

As for the art, however, it isn't growing on me at all. I've been buying Bastion Press' products since Arms and Armor and just haven't gotten my mind around the art. While Todd Morasche is certainly a better artist than I am, most of his stuff simply isn't pro quality - bad proportions, sloppy lines, and terrible coloring.

However, the writing and ideas are what keeps me coming back and looking forward to new Oathbound products.

Yup... I agree. However, to my surprise, two other people on the ennies award committee actually LIKE his stuff, which just goes to show there is no accounting for taste.

For a while there, Bastion brought in some really good artists. Stephanie Law (who does some work for Green Ronin, such as the covers of the Witch's and Shaman's hanbook and the interior of the Witch's Handbook and Book of the Righteous) was a contributor to Bastion's Spells & Magic.

That said, I still think Oathbound is pretty cool... an interesting setting.

I also really dig the prestige races concept. Definitely my favorite part of the book. The next Dragon Mag will feature prestige races from the blurb I saw in the current one. Hopefully it will be something different from what is in Oathbound. ( I believe the Dragon article is being done by Brannon H, an Oathbound contributor )

Thanks to the scrying eye of BigFreekinGoblinoid, we now have a link to a preview of said article! :)

After talking to some of my players about this world they now are determined that once I feel they are ready, we are to take our adventerers there and run amok. Boy....I never did tell them about the creatures in the back..... heehee heehee!!!!

Speaking of that, Psion - didn't you mention an Oathbound review a ways back? ;)

Not only did I mention one I did one... on d20 weekly.

I typically only write reviews for products I purchase for d20 weekly, as most of the people who have me on their mailing lists affix the label "ENWorld" somewhere on the package.

However, I had already written and submitted a review of Oathbound before I received my swag copy. I wrote Jim and he said he didn't care where it appeared. I sell my material to d20 weekly (that's right -- technically I work for Steve Jackson Games :) ), so I can't repost that here.

I could put up a mini review here if anyone is interested in seeing that. However, that will have to take a back seat to all the other stuff I have to review...

Gotcha - Well, I'd at least be interested in what you thought, but I know that it is tough to do a review for just one bloke. :P What about telling us how many stars it received? ;)
