D&D 3E/3.5 What do you ban? (3.5)

I do agree that you should only dish it out if you can take it, but I don't think that the charges he's leveled are equal to those leveled at him. And I also think his responses have been much better expressed (if not much more thought out).
Being bad at insulting people is not an excuse. This is more of a result of the fact that he's so convinced that his system is beter than everything else he's not willing to have an exchange, he just seems to want to tell us how we're doing it wrong.

I do understand what you're saying however.

I'm glad you understand what I'm saying. I don't think his insulting skills are low, just that he's more restrained then those insulting him, most of the time (not all the time).

And he seems very willing for an exchange. He has listed his views, his changes, and his reasoning behind it, and then he has gone on at length when those views are questioned. Insults have been exchanged on both sides, and that's too bad, as an actual exchange (which he has engaged in more than others, in my opinion, as he's offering his side, not solely questioning other people) seems much more important than petty insults.

I've asked people to tone done attacks in this thread several times already. One thing I like about EN World is that it seems more civilized than many other sites (with some loud exceptions). I'd like my views not to change on that.

Where has he told anyone that they are doing it wrong? I see him explaining why it is better for him and his style.

The point I was making was that you seem fine with sarcastic and obnoxious remarks made by yourself, while also complaining that other people are doing it to you. Notice how I have not whined about people responding firmly to my posts? That's because I have been doing it as well and I don't expect to be immune to backlash. Perhaps if you would cut out with the victim complex people would take your posts more seriously.

So, per your judgments so far, if I respond to sarcastic and obnoxious remarks with sarcasm then I'm being just as bad as the rest...
And, if I respond to sarcastic and obnoxious remarks by pointing out that they are sarcastic, obnoxious, insulting, and sometimes downright slanderous... then I'm being insulting (per your list)...
And, if I try to engage in reasoned debate and point out the logical flaws in peoples sarcastic and obnoxious statements, then I'm a conceited know-it-all who is not willing to have an honest exchange...
So, based on your posts, from what you've told me thus far, what I'm supposed to do is just shut-up, stop participating in this thread, and if don't play D&D your way, that I should stop playing Dungeons and Dragons.

Is there anything I missed? Do you think I'm being unfair in this summary of you participation in this thread? And, if so, would you like me to post the relevant quotes? I promise to give them plenty of context. This is the second time through this schtick of getting all self-righteous after you post some out of context quotes and get called on it, and I'm just wondering if you are done yet? You seem to be of the opinion that an argument is won by being the first one to call the other person rude (or whiny... or whatever).

The thing is I'm not actually bad at insulting people. I'm just not allowed to do it here. I really can insult people quite well. What I'm not particularly good at is innuendo and plausible deniablity and things of that sort. It's pretty much hostile or helpful and not much in between.

And the other thing is, people don't always take my posts seriously, but in general getting people to take me seriously is not a problem I have here or anywhere else. So, if you aren't taking my posts seriously, I am in fact arrogant enough to think there is a possibility that it isn't my fault. Arrogance is a charge I will concede to; unwillingness "to have an exchange" is not.

There's the victim attitude again.

You did respond sarcastically, so you are as bad as the rest. I include myself in that list as well, but I am under no delusion of enlightenment or superiority.

When in debate, most recently concerning the influences of martial arts, you belittled people's knowledge and implied that they could not understand things the way you do.

I started off not trying to "win" the argument, but to simply get you to ackowledge that there are opinions other than your own, without inserting some backhanded comment in your post. Everyone that has been reding this thread can take what I have quoted in context as they have likely been paying attention to what has been happening and I have marked which quotes come from which post numbers.

I'm not a power gamer I mostly play rangers and paladins and value a good story first. But over controlling bullying dms like you are just as bad as powergamers. 've never struggled to find a table but i bet your players could find a much better table to play at.

I'm not sure who you're talking to, but stop with the insults, eh? If there's a problem, report the post. Insulting another person will lead to thread- or board-suspension, and we prefer to avoid that. ~ PCat

There is nothing at all wrong in this well thought out post.

I've just gone through the thread handing out warnings, infractions and suspensions. You won't be seeing Celebrim in this thread again. As I said up-thread -- when you see this sort of problem, PLEASE REPORT THE THREAD. You do this by clicking on the triangular "!" to the left of every post. This is far, far preferable to continuing an argument.

Back on track, please!
