What do you do after an RPG session?

Let me put it to you another way - most of my sessions end because of real world, physical constraints. People usually still have more things they want or need to take care of with respect to their characters. Am I right in understanding that the majority of posters here stop their sessions because they no longer have things to take care of in that regard?

Or do you simply have a standing agreement to stop at a certain point?

It seems to me that if I were to do that, I would never progress beyond having one fight per session OR one episode of plot exposition per session.

How do you guys handle this?

I'm 36. Priests aren't lining up at the door to wrap me in toliet paper and carry me to the local pyramid yet, but I'm not a kid anymore. Sleep has actually crept up on the priority list. We typically play until midnight... in my book that's an unholy hour that is best served sleeping.

Dungeonmastercal, your post cracks me up because I have the same issue with my Friday night group, save my Chatty Cathies are a married couple who hang out and talk about everything. Meanwhile my lovely wife is blissfully asleep upstairs having put both the kids down while I was weaving stories for six of my friends. I've not resorted to pushing them out the door yet, but I have opened it for them. Hard to be pushy with the two of them as they are really nice folks and well meaning, but it can be annoying when you are tired, and amusing to think about later (like after a good night of sleep). :)

Thing is, I like the guy. He's a really nice guy, and I've known him over 15 years now. But he just doesn't grasp the fact that in all our group, he's the only one who likes those shows. (Rumor has it one other guy and his wife watched Buffy and Angel, but didn't tell him about it). I have my shows and things I like a lot but I know when and when not to talk about them. For instance, the fact I post on a gaming board is almost beyond his comprehension, but he feels it necessary to call me at strange hours to tell me about something he read on J. Michael Strazynski's messageboard (inevitably something Strazynki's cat did or coughed up).

I wish I was making that up.

Our group normally plays from noon-6PM every other Saturday. Usually some of us stick around after and play card or board games (Settlers, Game of Thrones, Grave Robbers From Outer Space, etc) until 10PM.

My dilema is that our group of seven will be growing to eight and now I need to find some games that will support eight if everyone decides to stay. The game should be playable within 3 or 4 hours.

Other ideas I've had include dividing the group in half and playing 2 different games or declaring a movie night.

Please share your ideas!

We would go to bed - seriously if there were still folks hanging about we would run another campaign or just keep chugging on what we were doing. I think pretty much everyone in the group would prefer to roleplay over other games and there is enough adventuring material to push on.

Well, that would ideally be what I'd like to do, but some of the players get burnt out after 6 hours and want to do something different.

Maybe one of the players can pick up the reigns and run a one-off in a different genre? Or is roleplaying pretty much just out?

I clean up most of the mess left behind, say goodnight to the players who have the courtesy to leave and go home (cuz it's very late) and sometimes rudely shut the door in the face of the one guy who insists on staying behind to prattle on about the Buffy-Angel-Babylon 5-Veronica Mars-Dr. Who-Comic Books topics about which I have no interest and he never seems to grasp that. Ever. Politely saying "I've never watched any of those shows or read any of those comics" has no effect on him. He'll stand there and recount in painful detail every minute of whatever episode he's excited about. I have and will continue to shut the door in his face until he gets a clue.

Then I go to bed because I have to get up for church the next day.

Wow, this almost exactly describes me...

Clean up mess. Check
Say goodnight to players. Check
Kick out chatty guy. Check
Go to bed for church. Check

we always play in the evening, so when I'm dming its explain to my girlfriend that I'm not out to get her/wont give her more xp as I collapse into bed (we usually play in my room or at least only next door.

when im playing its try and remove the red wine coated onto my tongue and stagger tiredly to bed bemoaning that I'm so clumsy unlike my 22 dex uber thief.
