What do you do for miniatures?

Perhaps someone who doesn't find $35 a year too steep a price for access to the board's search capability could search for it an post a link?
I think I did link to your post. :)
And it was quite a good listing too.
So far, the canterbury miniatures guys have helped me a lot (and the service was damn good too) plus with the current exchange rate, all you guys in the US will need to worry about is shipping costs (which are still pretty cheap)

I ended up paying about 20 AUD (about 10-15 USD) for minis (including shipping)

I'm quite happy with the quality too.

The other option for modern minis (if you can still find them) are the Trinity: Battleground minis that White Wolf put out a few years back... mind you they're probably more suited for near future/Urban Arcana/Psi type campaigns, but they work. Also as I mentioned previously, Imperial Guard troops from Games Workshop work well (and so do some of the Scout Marine miniatures)

I second the vote for HeroClix.

Here are some I converted for our Shadow Chasers game:
Nice work there, Gospog. I've done a few conversions myself with the clix, most of my conversions however have been taking old metal minis that I didnt need or like and jamming them together with old GW plastic parts to make them unique (or look like a different Alien race, etc). Pretty good paint on the clix, too, especially since most of 'em have a very marked lack of detail. We mainly use the Clix for the monsters, as the human-types usually have the worst detail for some reason, but we've fielded a few as baddies and whatnot.

I cant stress enough how easy it is to do basic conversions (and how hard it is to do more elaborate ones :) ). A good saw, a pin vice drill, a touch of putty and some glue and you can switch around heads, arms, bodies, etc. A small price to pay to get that unique mini you want for a character or just for fun, if you are into mini painting. I did some fairly simple work once and came out with a pretty nice looking squad of Trandoshan bounty hunters for a Star Wars game that plagued my players endlessly.

While I'm not a huge fan of the clix stuff, *especially* the new D&D plastic minis, but they do have some good uses for saving time and money, and for spare bits on the cheap when you need 'em. And if you get the right ones, they paint up nice (and even might occasionally have decent paintjobs already).

Other than the GW minis I use for my LOTR RPG, the best miniatures I've used (for Star Wars, d20 Modern, and Stargate SG-1) are LEGO minifigs. They're easily customizable, cheap if you know where to buy from (www.bricklink.com), and are a heck of a lot of fun to play with.

For excellent modern military miniatures try the following website.

They have US military minis (airborne rangers, marine troops, Delta force, CIA operative), British Royal Marine Commandos, Iraqi troops, Talaban and Al Queda troops, and Somoli Militia. Haven't purchased any myself yet, but they look good.
