What do you do to shake it up?

When the campaign is lagging what do you do to shake things up?

Switch DM's?

Switch genres?

Switch setting?

Stick in there and hope it improves?

I just punt and go with a module. That'll usually hold the party up for about 2-3 games. If I can't think of any ideas after that long a time, then there are other issues at play.

We have quite a few campaigns going on, so we switch from one to the other. If we get a little tired of it all, we simply take a break of a couple of months (although I don't see that happening with me anytime soon...)

Depends on my mood...mostly though I think changing settings can be cool. Like going from FR to Midnight. ;) Now THERE'S a switch! :)

My campaign is switching lanes, so to speak. So far, the characters have been pretty much on the offensive, smashing the forces of evil, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Now the forces of evil have decided enough is enough, and they're going to start smashing back. Time to teach those do-gooders not to cheese off powerful servants of Vecna.

The hunters are becoming the hunted!

Muahahahahaha!

We had a great long term campaign in Kalamar back in '98-99. After it was over, we had trouble getting started in different settings - we tried the Realms, Dragonlance, Ravenloft, a couple of DM homebrews, the Conan world, a brief foray into an ancient Greek type campaign, etc. We also played another fantasy sytem... We just couldn't get going again. Finally, what ended up doing was going back to Basic D&D and running through the Keep on the Borderlands (everybody but my halfling got killed by some sort of ooze or something...) I am sure we had runs of Cthulu and some dark future type games in there as well. What finally worked for us was before 3E came out, we said we are going to have one last short term 2E campaign. It would only last 6-8 weeks at the most. However, with an end in sight, we were able to focus on working together instead of getting in the rut of thinking what is coming 6 months down the road and what NWPs would be best served when my PC is at a higher level. And, we got back into working as a team, having fun, etc.

Both what BiggusGeekus and Mark Chance said. Tossing a module in can spice things up, and changing the general tone of the campaign also can make things exciting.

Switching genres and settings is completely unnecessary (I've played the same campaign/campaign setting with the same group of players for the past decade).

All of the above, depending on the situation. In the past two years I've started four or five different campaigns. I've just finally stumbled across one that the players seem to really enjoy.
