What do you like about D&D?

Great big gobs of flexible, hackable mechanics I can screw around with and string my own fluff on.

When you really get down to it, I guess I don't like D&D so much as d20. I don't really want to run or play games about elves and dwarves fighting goblins in dungeons; I just love how a new book will come out--from WotC or a third-party publisher--and dramatically expand the range of stuff I can do with the whole system. New classes with fun new subsystems? Alternate rules that change core mechanics, yet fit seamlessly with the rest of the game? I get excited about crap like that. And, in a way, the fact that it's not a perfectly modular, genre-neutral, point-based system kind of makes it more fun, because I have to do a little work to find away to get things to fit the way I want, and I actually enjoy that.
