What do you like about Planescape?

Ooooh, sly reference. +1 rep, if I knew your CM name.

Less CM, more Planeswalker.... the name Caesar Slaad was originally used in the context of the title of a possible official Planeswalker.com PSCS adventure for use at GenCon, AFAIK. I'm not sure if it was this year's or the previous year's GenCon though. Plus, the pun worked for the context.

As far as CM rep goes... I don't have an account at the Circus. Yet. Maybe later.

two quick reasons....

I liked how it made the planes playable at all levels.
and
I liked all the tidbits that were given for the planes such as in Limbo (or any chaotic) with the right proficiency you could control the environment around you making buildings, plants, and even animals.

Ah, I learn something every day.

Heh. Well, Caesar Slaad also happens to be the user name of a CM poster whose EN World persona has posted in this thread.

Planescape: Torment

That game got me hooked on the setting.

I like the idea of entire realities fighting each other. I like that two neutral good elf wizards that are identical in every respect in the game, might have a blood curdling hatred for each other based on disparate philosophies. I like the arbitrary and random effects most things have that puts the danger back into using magic.

And if your computer can run it, play Planescape Torment. One of the people you meet early in the game is a woman who is terrified of walking under any door or any archway because it might strand her in a strange and dangerous plane that might cripple or alter her forever. She seems crazy ... until you see that all of her teeth are moving independently of each other! Creepy stuff!

The artwork really set a great mood. Fantasy with a slightly odd skew to it... I love it.
I'll second the mention of DiTerlizzi's artowork. The visual centerpoint it gave to the setting had an odd onyrical feel to the setting.

To quote TarionzCousin: Ah, I learn something every day.

Also, now that I think about it, I've loved what I've seen of DiTerlizzi's artwork. It does have great atmosphere. Very beautiful and very fantastic.
