What do you love about AE? What do you hate? What should I watch out for?

While it's true that you might heal a little less, you're missing the "spread the burden around" aspect of AE. Since all spellcasters and several classes (as well as anyone who takes Focused Healing) can heal, no one is The Healing FactoryTM.

I've actually seen that what happens is with spells readied, casters are far more effective at choosing the right spell for the situation. So they tend to exhaust their options a lot faster at lower levels.
