I decided to go all in and both sub to Demiplane and get the DH core rules on Demiplane so i can run it remotely (with the help of Discord). I wish it had launched with Fantasy Grounds support, but alas.

Daggerheart has nowhere near the crunch of D&D though. It's classes have, what, 4 abilities?

It's classes have more like 6 to 8... but you don't start with them all, as 3 per subclass... you get 2-3 core for the class, and 1 from the subclass; at level-up you can opt to add the next card rank in the subclass.
You can also multiclass once per tier...
But there are also domain cards, and those are class linked. And getting more is an advancement... and multi-classing allows adding an additional domain to choose from.

LOTS of permutations due to the Level Up rules.

I really need to hold off on deep diving the rules until my life is more sane... but since that's not happening anytime soon...

Either a player likes the crunchy rules or they like super-lightweight freeform play. Finding a group of people who like both when that Venn diagram is effectively two separate circles is going to be hard.

This makes me a bit more curious again about Daggerheart because I am one of these in the middle of that Venn diagram. As a player I like to powergame while going deep into roleplay (its not mutually exclusive). As a DM I like fulfilling narratives, like to include player input into worldbuilding etc., but I also love a bit crunch on the gameplay. Not too much, but purely narrative driven games are a bit too .... .... floaty to me? I lack better words to describe the vibe I don't like.

Would be willing to try out a game or two, but there's a lot of things about the system I really do not like. It pretty much smashes you over the head with dissociated mechanics, for example. I also do not much care for what I've seen of the armor and hp/damage system. And I feel like all too many of the abilities or status conditions lack punch - I'm not seeing spells that petrify or combat techniques that decapitate, for instance. (Though of course, I'm sure I haven't seen everything).

But that's ok, not everyone has the same gaming tastes. And I wish all of you who have been salivating over the system the very best.
