I got powers of Faerun as a birthday present from my in-laws so I'm not going to complain too loudly. My evaluation of its quality though is that I found it disappointing and would not really recommend it. From my brief reading it mostly tells you to do noncombat adventures but does not really provide any tools to do so.

I played a merchant prince for years in a long running campaign and I was interested on their spin on how to do political, social, and economic stuff in a game. I did not find anything to really implement in my own games.

I keep being tempted to get Dynasties and Demagogues by Atlas Games for this type of stuff.

No offense to any of the authors who might read this, but I felt the book was worthless as a whole. There are a couple of decent bits in it, but overall... poopoo.

You should -- it's a great book! Power of Faerun has some useful bits of advice and some interesting story/fluff elements, but it doesn't really hang together as a coherent whole. From my point of view, it was pretty disappointing but the Sohlissian (sp?) Empire storyline is very useful for my campaign.

Cheers
