What do you want to know about the Draconomicon?

Interesting. Malystryx was an alien dragon, not native to Krynn, so I wonder if it says anything about her in that sense. I'm clearly going to have to get this book, just so I can see where WotC's head is regarding Dragonlance in these core products.

Cheers,
Cam

I'm not sure if you'll get a clear picture since the book is not campaign specific and WoTC wants stuff like that to be largely portable. I would think that DDI articles would ultimately be more indicative. If and when that happens, that is.

Cheat. Seriously, you gather up artifacts and ways to stack things in your favor, and spend the previous couple of adventures preparing and setting up for that fight.

Exactly, that's what they've pretty much said in the various dev articles and such. If you want to fight Vecna, you can't just beat him up; you need to pull some tricks to weaken him, strip him of most of his divine power, and only then go kill him. Demigods (as I understand it) will be up in that 28-30 range where a group of five epic characters have a decent chance. Orcus and the other Demon Lords are about equal in power to a demigod, IIRC.

For a good example of how to slay a god, have a look at how Bane got killed during FR's Time of Troubles -- once sealed in his Avatar form by Elmunchkin (and thus cut off from the majority of his deific power), he got killed in single combat with the demigod Torm, who was probably equivalent to a 30th level solo at the time. (After the battle, Torm moved up from demigod to full deity, but that's beyond the scope of the discussion.)

Shadow Dragons? What're they like now? In 3.5 they were frankly uber, with permanent total concealment, ridiculous AC, and a negative-level breath weapon.

This book seems non-optional at this point. Ugh. Amazon, here I come.

The Shadow Dragon(listed only as level 24 Solo) can:

Bite w/ Weakened(save ends)
Breath Weapon deals necrotic, plus target loses 1 surge and weakened(save ends)
At-Will Globe of Darkness, Sustain minor, like Black Dragon's darkness but Area 2 Ranged and At-Will
+4d6 damage w/ combat advantage
At-Will Shadow Walk teleport between Globes of Darkness

It also has a land/fly speed of 10

Feywild Dragons(Mirage, Wretch), Shadowfell Dragons(Blight, Shadow).

Information on these? Environment and breath? And psychology, what makes them tick?

Cheers.

Well, given 4e's exception-based monster design, don't all monsters do this? ;)

Like all monsters, deities still croak at 0 hp. That's good enough for me.;)

If wotc didn't want something to be fought, much less killed, they wouldn't have bothered with stats for it (partly the reason why they had the anemic cr20-odd demon lords in fiendish codex 1).

You can come up with a campaign hook to lower Tiamat's stats down to a more reasonable level for your party, but as written, there is nothing wrong with simply pitting her as is against your party. All it really does is further encourage optimization (or at least, until wotc releases rules allowing your party to exceed lv30), because that is pretty much the only way your party is going to be able to defeat her consistently.

Am I alone in thinking that this whole taboo about gods being untouchable simply has to go? :p

I only recall two things about the Mirage dragon: They consider Eladrin brethren, and are descendants of Green Dragons; their scales are all emerald green. (The art also looked vaguely Chinese dragon - lots of fanning fins).

The Wretch dragon are corrupted descendants of Purple Dragons that the Fomorians captured and trained to be their pets/mounts/guardians.
