what does a CLW potion taste like in your world?

Mine are blue (and glow in the dark blue if they're extra potent) and taste like anice.

Aha! Someone else with blue potions that taste like almonds.

See, my theory is that since D&D started with such a small group of people, and a lot of people learned from others, it seems only natural that these little tidbits would creep into the common pysche of D&D players, since these would get passed down as sort of an oral tradition.

I don't bother to describe potions unless a player asks. But I always assume they are in something less fragile than a glass vial. Given the cost of potions, making the container out of steel (or some other strong substance) isn't going to change the price much. But it sure saves hassles when you fall into the 10' deep pit...

The potion labeling thread (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=138611 ) got me to wondering whether there was any consistency in the way potions tasted from one campaign to another.


It seems like, in a lot of groups I was in, cure light wounds potions (your basic, run-of-the-mill low-level healing potion) are blue, and have a taste not unlike almonds.


So, describe form, the taste, color (texture if applicable) for a basic cure light wounds healing potion (or equivalent) in your game.

If you don't know, shame on you.

Since I kind started the taste thing I have to reply sigh

My are a thickish liquid the color of cherry cool aid (i.e bright red) and taste like cough syrup if and only if you are injured. Otherwise they have no taste at all

I'm in the "Different flavor, different brewer" camp.

If it's a Greenbond who makes a healing potion, then it is basically magical honey... so it just tastes like honey and looks like honey.

Now magisters are a little different. As magisters work with raw arcane magiks, their healing potions usually take on an opaque teal color. They are extemly sour... like pure lemon juice. Even more so, as you feel as if your lips are on the verge of packing their bags and jumping off your face. And it tingles your throught, a lot. But Magisters are arcanists, not five star chefs.

Healing potions made by witches are great! They taste like bubble gum and cotton candy. Alought people are still perplexed as how witches actually accomplish this as ingredients include newt eyes, bat wings, spider egss, and other little bits and pieces of animals that to the common persons mind, just don't add up to gum drops.

All the other spell casters rarely put any effort into making potions. If they do, they come as strange things, tasting like Uncle Ned's Hang-Over Helper blend of equal parts raw eggs, mustard, salt, garlic powder, Tang mix, and half a cup of butter. They tend not to sell on the market much... in fact at all really. Usually these potions stay within the party of people they were made for.

Cure potions are light blue; the darker the blue, the more potent the potion, and potions that heal other things beyond hit points (poison, disease) are bluish. They taste like the air smells after it rains.

Wow, I never expected to see such a wide range of CLW potions!

Mine have always been a milky-white with kind of a sweet taste. They are slightly thicker than normal milk, basically 1 part whole milk and 1 part egg nog, with a very similar taste.

I've always subconsciously equated healing potions with something I always liked as a child: dunking cookies and donuts in milk.
