What does damaging/boosting mental abilities feel like?

Well 2 different responses-
To gain intelligence - The mage in my pary just crafted his own headband of intellect. Ive described it as a second internal voice in his head that doesnt think of anything that he wouldn't have, it just thinks more or less simotaniously. It occasionally works through a differern't logic path then he is concentrating on.

Accute ADD - I have non-hyperactive ADD and I can reach a point where the world is just slightly removed from me, I can continue to perform actions but not make any real decisions or change course at all. I usually snap out of it in less than a minute, or through a change in stimuli - such as a person saying something intresting or provoking a response. This lack of focus shows up when I am unintrested in what is going on.
The flip side is that I can hyperfocus on a single thing (such as a computer game or book) so much that it actually takes me a few seconds to change gears.

There's an easy, cheap, and relatively safe way to experience decreased mental faculties: Let someone wake you when you're really fast asleep, with far too few sleep to be rested. Then, let him ask you questions when you're still half (or rather nine tenths) asleep. You'll have problems understanding people, you'll be a less than social person, and your mind will feel like treacle

A injury to the right frontal cortex of your brain would be Chr. drain. However, I have no idea where to get a good account of it, as it is very rare that the right frontal cortex is damaged without killing the person.

Generally when someone has done this to me I just get very pissed off.

Just brainstorming...

INT loss could consist of:
  • Forgetfulness (short or long term memory loss)
  • Inability to reason
  • Lack of imagination
  • Loss or reduction in literacy
  • Misplacing important items (where did I leave that scroll?)

WIS loss could consist of:
  • Voices in your head
  • Lack of focus/concentration
  • Inability to see the long term effects of your actions
  • Insanity (duh)
  • Confusion and disorientation (that just woke up feeling)
  • Inability to see the obvious (AKA Not seeing the forest for the trees syndrome)

CHA loss could consist of:
  • Not picking up on body language
  • Not knowing when to shut up
  • Lack of social grace
  • Inappropriate behavior (cracking jokes at a funeral)
  • Inability to empathize with others or see other points of view
  • Weak will, easily swayed

there are plenty of groups out there to discuss issues of memory loss, loss of limb, and other injuries.

also see if you can find the movie with robin williams where he suddenly snaps out of his catatonic state when he starts taking medication.

Actually, deNiro snaps out of his catatonia, and Williams is the doctor in charge.

I'm most interested in what it would be like to increase your Charisma. Suddenly you find people paying more attention to you, being more respectful, perhaps a bit obsequious. Would you become cocky, knowing that now you can get what you want? Would you take advantage of people?

As a rough metaphor, people who become suddenly rich often abuse their riches, wasting money on things they would never have wanted, spurning their friends because they don't need them anymore, and generally pissing people off. But people will still try to hang out with them, because they want to benefit from the money too.
