What does FLGS stand for?

It looses the irony if you change it to make complete sense. Hence, Distant Local Gaming Store. It's local in the same sense as the 'theater near you' that they're always talking about is Near Me...which it is, but only if you're off by a month in your time keeping. So, the gaming store is local in the same way that Andromeda is part of the same Local Group as our galaxy...

But anyway, back to the point of this thread...

The ones that always used to get me were IMC (in my campaign), and YMMV (your mileage may vary).

Aha! Now it makes perfect sense! :D

You know, I don't have an FLGS, just a DLGS; Distant Local Gaming Store. To get there, it's a 15 minute drive to the ferry, a 15 minute to 1.5 hour wait at the ferry, a 15 minute trip across the water, then a 20 minute drive once I'm on the other side--then I have to get home...

I'm fond of using FNSLGS in this instance; that's Friendly Not So Local Gaming Store.

It's what I call mine on the weekends, when I'm an hour and a half Metro ride and walk away.

Fluff = stuff that you'll never use at the gaming table.

Crunch = stuff that adds to the already vast amount of rules you have to remember at the gaming table.

Quality = stuff that makes the job of DMing easier at the gaming table.

Hope that helps. :)

Now that's easy to remember, thanks ;p.

Thanks to the others as well. BBEG I should have gotten, but GURPS? Not familiar with that system at all. Have two very good shops close by but neither carry anything related to it.

I always thought Favourite Local Game Store was an oxymoron. I mean, I'd be pleased to have one local game store. "Favourite" implies a choice...

As for "friendly", well a lot of them can be a bit sharp at times...

wow, you're kidding, right? GURPS has consistently been one of the top 5 game systems in popularity for the past decade or more (behind D&D, White Wolf, and Palladium).

i'd have to dispute your claim of the shops being "very good" if they don't carry GURPS. ;)

Well, in the shops defense, and my own ;p, I stopped playing PnP before 2nd Edition came out. I have been buying the books again only in the last two years, and have only been actually gaming again for the last 6 monthes. So, when I visit the shops (one of which has a vast array of books), I shop rather single-mindedly for DnD. Got two folks who have been trying like hell to interest me in White Wolf/Changeling so I guess I'll be finding out what's on the other side of the shop.
