D&D specific opinion: D&D Lite (for youths of all ages)
A couple of months before Christmas, I (re)visited a FLGS.
My goal was to get an introductory D&D box set for a young relative.
(Backstory: Haven't played since 3e, but was involved in some 3PP playtests at the time)
Flipping through the 5e PHB wasn't quite a case of "roll for system shock"...but time passes and things do change.
So I looked at the available (shrinkwrapped) intro box sets, including the one for Pathfinder, and asked a friendly employee some questions.
I decided to give the 5e Essentials a chance; and also bought myself a copy of the 5e PHB.

I read through the Essentials Box set carefully.
My conclusion was it was too complicated for my young relative at this point in time, who would likely have to DM the game.
Perhaps I should have purchaced the "Starter" box set, but my resources are not unlimited...
