What dragon is a realistic challenge?

I remember reading awhile back that dragons were the highest end of CRs. By that I mean If a juv red dragon is a CR9 then that is the best CR9 monster there is.

I don't remember where I read it or who said it but I think it is pretty accurate.

Maybe we're just wusses in the game I play in, but we decided that dragons should all have a CR of 2 above what's listed in the books, to accurately reflect the trouble they cause.

I agree; myself, I add whatever I think is appropriate - with +2 or so being the norm, also.

I don't use many house rules, but one of those rules is that all dragon CRs are increased by 2.

Naw. There hasn't been a good dragon discussion here for a while and maybe Lurker in the Dark can tell us how his party fared against the young red dragon? Where are they now...?
