What feat for my character?

First Post
I have a Level 3 Fighter and At where I Play at we get a feat every 3rd level so my fighter gets a feat just about every level. I was woundering since I am not sure, What feat I should get. My character is a half orc fighter with a LARGE +1 Master worked great sword so I do
3D6 +7 and my attack bonus is +6. My character also has an AC of 19 he has Full plate. He currently has Weapon focus great sword, Monkey grip, and power attack. I'm trying to decide between Iron will, Improved toughness, or Cleave and if there are any cooler or better feats I should know about please tell me.

I would like to know what the following feats do
Combat Brute
Shock Trooper
and
Iron Will

Cleave! No doubt about it. Not only is it very good in and of itself, it is on the prerequisite tree for two very nice tactical feats: Combat Brute and Shock Trooper, for later on.

I would say cleave is the way to go, if your damage ouput keeps increasing you might even want greater cleave.

PS. isn't large greatsword 2d8 damage.

no its the 2d6 for a great sword and another half so another d6 witch equils 3D6.

Oh and my DM's dont really do Swarms of creatures so cleave is ehhhh if you know what I mean but other than that cleave would be my first choice.

Another vote for Cleave. When you make 4th level, and get a bonus fighter feat, I'd then recommend Weapon Specialization.

Nope, it is, indeed, 3d6. PHB, p. 114.

yea im waiting for 4th just for that feat :p I thaught about going barbarian but its not for me because all I get out of it is rage but my damage and attack bonus is good enough and I dont want -2 to my AC AND I have to wait another leavel for weapon specialization

Doesn't even need to be "swarms" of creatures...just need to be able to have 2 baddies at hand at once. Though, if your DM's style is to throw one monster at you at a time, then, yeah, Cleave isn't such a hot choice.

he likes BIG guys. They even told me Swarms of creatures more thain 5 is a very rare site, and our groups are usually about 6 people so yea...

Well in that case, maybe look at "tactics" feats where you get extra benefits from flanking, aid another, etc., if you always outnumber the bad guys.

But even as a prerequisite Cleave is good. One of Complete Warrior Tactical feats mentioned above lets you cleave from a victim's sundered weapon to the victim, for instance.

And even with only 2-5 bad guys, you usually can get your group together so that you are near two of the bad guys (mabye a line of 6 of you vs. a line of 5 of them, maybe some more intricate flanking weirdness). Then cleave is useful again. And let us not forget the usefulness of cleave in bar brawls. :)

I'll join the chorus for Cleave--IME, it's quite useful even against groups of 2-5 creatures.

In the event that you're not into that however, Iron Will is a solid choice for nearly any fighter type.

Close Quarters Fighting is also quite useful when you go up against foes with Improved Grab (which you will be doing regularly in a few levels).
