What Feat Should I Choose?

Witness

First Post
I am currently playing fith level human monk and am having trouble deciding what feats to take at 6th level.

My stats are
STR +2
DEX +4
CON +1
INT +1
WIS +3
CHA -1

Feats: Weapon Finesse(Unarmed), Dodge, Combat Reflexes, Stunning Fist(Monk), Deflect Arrows(Monk)

I am using the OA Monk and currently I am aiming for the Tattoed Monk PrC, but not till at least 9th level. I can choose any of the feats from the Core books, OA, and the Class books. Since I am using the OA monk I can trade out Improved Trip. So what 2 Feats should I take at 6th level?

Mobility and Spring Attack is a good combination for a monk. Expert Tactician, Weapon Focus (unarmed), and Improved Grapple are not bad, either. Really, it depends on how you envision your monk. I am not familiar with the Tattoed Monk, but if you need any feats to qualify, now is the time. :D

Looks like your original intent was Mobility and Springing attack at 6th, Expertise at 9th and Whirlwind attack at 12th. Its not a bad choice.

Actually, originally I was going for the Shadow Dancer PrC, so I took Dodge and Combat Reflexes before I figured out that my Monk unarmed attacks don't stack. I'm looking forward to seeing the PrC's in the upcoming Quintessential Monk. Anyone know of any other good source for Monk PrC's?

Speaking as the player of a monk who hit 6th level just a couple of sessions ago, I can't say enough about spring attack. It lets me participate in combat effectively despite my relatively poor armor class and hit points, taking better advantage of my good attack and damage rolls. (Can't flurry on a spring attack, though, darn it. :( )

I think I went overboard with it the first session, fighting some incorporeal undead. (Best touch AC and best saves in the group, some of the other party members thought I should be on the front line for some reason. :) ) But it's really been useful overall, especially against enemies with reach.

Dodge, Mobility, Dex 13+. (Don't quite get why the Dex requirement is there, since it's already a prereq for Dodge, but anyway ...) You'd need to use both your 6th level feat and your switched-out Improved Trip feat on Mobility and Spring Attack to do this. That said, I've really been enjoying the benefits of Mobility since my monk hit 3rd level ...
[edit]Oh yeah, forgot the BAB requirement. Keeps them monks from getting it at 3rd level. :)

Spring Attack is only necessary if you are shy about toe-to-toe matchups, a common problem for monks but it does depend on the party makeup. You already have Tumble to get you safely into and out of trouble so this is not must have.

Expert Tactician has absolutely frigging stupendous synergy with Stunning Fists. Every time you stun you will get an extra attack.

There are a lot of fine other Monk feats. If you have an effective Rogue, he will worship you for picking up Unbalancing Strike. Flying Kick is solid. Falling Star Stirke is superb against humanoids. I love Defensive Throw and Grappling Block, but the prereqs are heavy; anything that punishes opponents for attacking you is a huge tactical win.

I recommend Expert Tactician and Mobility. Pick up Spring Attack at 9th.
