What good 'old' shows are worth the scratch?

I really don't understand the desire to purchase a season or entire series of a TV show on DVD. Plus, they are frigging expensive.
An average of $30 a season is expensive? A six season show could be bought for a a little under $200. I get $100 a month clear for spending however I like, sometimes more.

It's the appeal of being able to see any episode of the series I want, whenever I want, without commercials. Should I choose, I can watch a week-long marathon of a television series from beginning to end without interruption.

Plus, in our particualr case, the only thing our television is hooked up to is a VCR and a DVD player -- no satellite, no cable, not even an antenna for local stations. The few television shows that actually do want to see, we see on DVD or not at all.

That depends on the show... A season's worth of a television series can range from $20 to $80+, depending on its popularity when it was originally released and its current popularity.

You, my friend, need to come over to my house and watch the glory that is three seasons - 15 dvds - of Gilligan's Island.

Well on a dollar/hr of entertainment value TV boxed sets are actually usually a good deal, often much better than movies. At say $40 for a 3-4 DVD set or even $100 for a six dvd set vs $20 for a 2hr movie, you get about twice as much entertainment per dollar spent.

And that doesn't get into if you can snag something like the complete Monty Python's Flying Circus for $100, which is possible on sale.
