What happened between green ronin and osseum

Hey,

I just came from the green ronin website. They are having an awesome fundraiser to try and pay their freelancers, but what I really wanted to know is, why do they need it. What happened between green ronin and osseum entertainment. I mean, it seems that Osseum had a lot of good rpg customers, and some very good people that it represented, but what happened?

Just looking for some info.

Thanks

The short version of the story is that Osseum ceased to exist, and Green Ronin never saw a dime from many of the products that Osseum was distributing for them. Thus GR couldn't pay their freelancers, and in fact I think even the regular staff took deep pay cuts to keep the company alive.

A helpful post from another site:

Allow me to clarify a few things:

1) Osseum did not declare bankruptcy. The owner skipped out of his apartment mid-month and fled Seattle. He's never been heard from again. Even a PI couldn't turn him up.

2) This happened because they had been our key business partner for over three years. Throughout that period, we had been paid in full and on time every month. So when they first started paying late and not in full, it seemed like a glitch and not a pattern of behavior. They told us the trouble was retailers not paying distributors and distribotors not pay them. This was all too easy to believe in the game industry. Things finally came to a head at GAMA Trade Show, when Osseum failed to even show up when they were supposed to rep us. At that point we broke from them and even after that the owner claimed he was going to make good and help us with the transition of doing our own sales. Then he skipped out of town.

3) Our insurance did not cover this sort of thing.

That really stinks, I mean, green ronin is a wonderful publisher, and bad axe games which also was represented by osseum. That guy should be subjected to the worst that gamers can come up with, and believe me, I know, gamers are creative people. To anyone who would like to, I wonder if enworld could make some pdf's that the profits go to help green ronin. Just an idea.

I kinda wonder what would be justice to a guy who took peoples hobbies, and imaginations, and ran with their money.

Thanks for the info

John

I don't like this. I don't like this a lot. Companies having a hard time because the produce crap and won't listen to their customers if they tell them so - that's life. If you won't listen to the customers, you should not expect to get rich.

But a company that makes top notch stuff, but gets in a tight spot because of some bastard conning them out of money? That's not okay. Far from it.

I agree. This is beyond despicable. One man's selfish act affects the livelihood of so many hardworking people. Here's to hoping that this criminal is eventually discovered and forced to pay what he owes.

Well, I don't know about justice, but to slowly twist and snap his bones (I'll save the spine last) without anesthesia sounds like a fair compensation.

Screaming like a little girl and begging to stop the fracturing would just be icing on the cake.
