What happened to Banshees in 3rd ed. D&D???

Can anyone please tell me why there is no info whatsoever about banshees in the 3rd ed. Monster Manual, even if there still is the "Wail of the Banshee" spell?

It's in the Creature Catalog, and the forthcoming Tome of Horrors has it listed under Groaning Spirit (I believe).

Eryx is correct. The Groaning Spirit in the upcoming Tome of Horrors is indeed the 1e banshee from the 1e MM.

I'd use the ghost template with the corrupting gaze, horrific appearance and frightful moan abilities. It won't kill people with its scream, but it'll still be pretty scary.
